Four persons died and six others were injured when the Bolero they were on, fell into a deep gorge of 100 metres at Dhon, between Dhaun and Banlekh, 12 lilometres away from Champawat. The accident occurred at 12.45 pm on Saturday. Deceased have been identified as Azad, resident of Khatima, Savitri, resident of Pithoragarh and two others unidentified persons.
Ten persons including driver were travelling to Pithoragarh from Tanakpur. As per preliminary investigation, accident occurred due to negligence of the driver.
Champawat Superintendent of police Dheerendra Singh Gunjyal said that four persons died while six others were injured. The injured persons were admitted in district hospital through 108 ambulance services.
Moreover, after information being received, additional DM Hament Kumar Verma, SP Gunjyal, SDM Seema Vishwakarma, Tehsildar Govind Prasad, disaster and police rescue team rushed to the spot and conducted rescue and relief operation, which is still under processed. The injured persons who were admitted in the district hospital, have been identified as Bhuwan Tiwari, 28, resident of Khatima (Udham Singh Nagar), Ramnath, 12, resident of Almora and Mahendra Singh, 35, resident of Pithoragarh; Parveer Singh, 24, resident of Selmali, Munsiyari and Meena Devi, 45, resident of Mawani, Pithoragarh and one unidentified person.
Moreover, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed his deep sorrow at the death of passengers in a road accident at Tanakpur. He prayed for the peace of the departed soul and for grant of patience to the next of kin of the deceased in this hour of grief. He also prayed to the Almighty for the early recovery of those injured in the accident.
