Continuing drive against drug peddling, Anti Drug Unit of Champawat have arrested a person from Mudiyani Banlekh area and recovered 1.200 kg hashish from his possession on late Saturday evening. The accused has been identified as Lokesh Gupa, native of Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh). Taking serious note of rising up cases of drug peddling, Champawat SP DS Gunjiyal has directed anti drug unit to conduct checking drives at their jurisdictional limit.
Bazaar Police post in-charge Vinod Kumar said that team members arrested the accused Lokesh Gupa from Mudiyani Banlekh. A case under appropriate sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the accused has been registered in the police station. The accused was sent to jail after being produced in the court. SP Gunjiyal has announced reward of Rs 2500 to the team members for arresting the drug smuggler.
Moreover, Gunjiyal said that on the direction of senior police officer, anti drug unit has been formed at police station level. The team members have been directed to conduct checking drives at their jurisdictional limit. In the last five days, a drug peddler was arrested from Kirora, Tanakpur and 1 , 4oo kg hashish was recovered on July 24. On July 26, a drug peddler was arrested and 1. 020 hashish was recovered. On July 27, a drug peddler was arrested and 1,120 kg hashish was recovered.
