‘’Sports is a metaphor for overcoming obstacles and achieving against great odds.’’ The truth of this statement gets manifested every time there is a sporting event. It fosters a spirit of camaraderie and culls out the hidden passion of individuals.
Kasiga celebrated its 11th Annual Athletic Meet on 2nd November, 2018 with great pomp and show that left an indelible impression on all who witnessed it.
The Athletic meet had provided the much needed impetus that this grand event deserved. Ranjit Kumar Bhatia, (IPS, Retd.) former Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police was the Chief Guest for the occasion. The other dignitaries who graced the occasion included the Chairman, Ramesh Batta, Poonam Batta, the Director Finance,Siddhartha Batta, the Director Welfare Chandni Batta, the Head of School Sonali Sinha and the Deputy Head of School, Chandra Shekhar Yadav.
After the welcome speech by the Head of School, Sonali Sinha, the Chief Guest declared the meet open and took the guard of honour at the march past which was followed by the traditional lighting of the torch.
The students solemnly pledged to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship. The oath of fair play was administered by the Head Girl Madiha Islam following which the Chief Guest declared the Athletics Meet open. Fun Races and Junior Category races saw enthusiastic participation of Junior School, which was appreciated and applauded by the audience. Synchronized Mass P.T. kept the spectators spellbound which preceded the track and field events. After the spectacular P.T. display there was the Didi’s and Bhaiyaa’s race in keeping with the spirit of inclusiveness. The relay races which followed shortly had everyone cheering at the top their voices.
However, the highlight of the day’s programme was the tug of war between the staff and the parents which brought everyone present to their feet. The medal ceremony followed soon after. A Zumba dance display by Junior and Middle School students followed. The much awaited prize distribution ceremony followed shortly.
The day was filled with exciting victories and near misses for all the houses. In the 100 metres Middle and Senior Girls category Ishana won the first prize while Hannah won the Sub Junior Girls Fun race. The winners in the 100 metres Sub Junior, Junior, Intermediate and Senior Boys category were Malcolm, Garvit Mago, Shreesh Bakshi, Aman Goel.
In the the 4 X 100 metres Middle and Senior Girls the winners were Ishana Kapoor, Reyha Tyagi, Gorvika Arora and Arja (Pacific House). In the 4 X 100 metres Middle Boys relay race Om Rawat, Safal Pokharel, Eshaan Marvania, Mandeep Gurung (Pacific House) stood first. Sreesh,Sahil, Kavish, Siddharth Rawat ( Everest House) stood first in the 4 X 100 metres Middle Boys relay race. Ishaang, Qaisar, Utkrash and Manish (Nile House) stood first in the 4 X 100 metres Senior Boys relay race. The best athletes in the Sub Junior Boys, Sub Junior Girls, Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Middle Boys, Middle and Senior Girls and Senior Boys category were Malcolm, Priya Patel, Garvit Mago, Manya, Aman Singh, Ishana Kapoor, Aman Goel respectively.
The Chief Guest Mr. Ranjit Kumar Bhatia stressed on the need for all round development of a student into a well balanced individual who doesn’t flinch in the face of adversities. He lauded the school management for their immense contribution in popularizing sports and games. He reiterated and empahasized that nothing else strengthens one’s endurance and will power.
He expressed his fond wish to see these young men and women face failure with a smile in future. Then came the most awaited moment of the day—the prize distribution for individual cups. The player of the year in athletics, basketball, cricket, shooting, skating, soccer, swimming, table tennis and tennis was as follows: Praveen Budania, Yazan Khan, Piyush Behl, Yash Agarwal, Ishang Mohan, Nishant Chauhan and Reyha Tyagi, Priya Patel and Sreesh Bakshi, Brahmaansh Gandhi and Abhinav Acharya. The Inter House Mass P.T. Cup was won by Amazon House while the March-past Cup was awarded to Amazon House. The Overall Best Athletics Championship 2018 was bagged by the Pacific House.
The Sports Day concluded with the vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem.
