An induction meeting for the fresher batch (session January -2019) of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at Study Centre, DAV (PG) College was held in the college campus on Sunday.
Around 1600 students who enrolled themselves in various bachelor and post graduation degree courses from IGNOU at Study Centre, DAV (PG) College attended induction meeting at two separate places- main auditorium and Deen Dayal auditorium in the college campus.
The fresh students were inducted in the January 2019 academic session. Students who had submitted their documents during admission online were verified by the officials concerned and later they were given information about the programme and courses in details during induction meeting.
The programme began with the welcome address and detailed introduction of IGNOU by the Study Centre Coordinator Associate Professor, Economics, Dr VB Chaurisia.
He spoke about day to day functioning and various activities being performed by the centre. He said that the objective of the induction meeting was to share information related to various programmes, courses, syllabus, assignments and activities of IGNOU. He also talked about online support, gyan darshan, gyan vani programmes, Eklavya, Vyas, Gyandhara, different facets of information technology, and others in details. other information technologies used by IGNOU to provide education to the students that’s way its has presence in around 35 countries of the world. He laid emphasis on quality of educational materials and its flexibility. He informed the students about procedure of assignment in details in which they have to submit to the center before examination.
Regional director IGNOU, Dehradun Dr Asha Sharma appreciated the efforts taken by coordinator of the Centre for efficient functioning. She stressed on the motives of opening IGNOU Study Centres in different areas and assured full support from the Regional Centre.
She apprised the learners about the mandate, objectives and achievements of the IGNOU, as largest University, offering Education in hundreds of discipline through Distance Mode.
She revealed that all IGNOU, Courses and educational materials are recognised world over and degrees are accepted internationally. She informed that regional Centre is always ready to provide any kind of support and help to them in realizing their goal of obtaining higher education from IGNOU.
DAV (PG) College Principal Ajay Saxena said that IGNOU educational materials are at high standard and focused on employment generation. One of the major reasons behind the newfound popularity of distance learning is that the syllabus of IGNOU is compatible with the syllabus of various competitive examinations.
One of the students who attended the introductory class said that she is doing job in private Bank along with study. She further said that the introductory was very productive because she knew about classes are being held in the study centre and procedure of assignments.
