31 volunteered to donate blood at PGIMER’s Voluntary Blood Donation Camp

Thalassaemic Charitable Trust (Regd) PGI-GMCH in coordination with Department of Transfusion Medicine PGIMER  organized its 261st Blood Donation Camp  on  08.10.2022 in  PGIMER,  Chandigarh to  commemorate National Air Force Day. Total 31 Hon’ble voluntary donors donated blood in this camp and 8 blood donors were rejected due to technical reasons.

Shri Rajinder Kalra  Member Secretary Thalassemic Charitable Trust, PGIMER-GMCH expressed deep gratitude to all voluntary blood donors and Head of Department and staff of Blood Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER  for success of this Camp.

This Trust has organised  77 Blood donation camps  since 6th June 2020 during COVID19 lockdown period to help Blood Bank of PGIMER, Chandigarh to provide blood to Thalassaemics and other serious patients requiring blood support.  More than 10031 units of blood has been collected in these camps till date.

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anemia.  Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20 days is a widely recommended treatment for  maintaining optimal Hemoglobin level. Thalassaemic Charitable Trust has been organising blood donation camps and serving thalassaemics since 1985. Presently about 450 Thalasaemics are availing blood transfusion facilities in our two Day Care Centres in  PGIMER  & GMCH Chandigarh. Free medicines are also provided to poor patients by the Trust.
