Online colloquium On “Prison Reform”

The Institute of Correctional Administration,Chandigarh in partnership withIndian Police Foundation (IPF) organized an online colloquium On “Prison Reform” on 10th March 2023. Around 100 serving and retired police and prison officers of all ranks, academicians, researchers, lawyers and judicial officersfrom all over the country participated in this colloquium.Dr.K.P. Singh IPS (Retd.), Director, IPF Centre for Prison Reform was the moderator in the colloquium. The aim of this colloquium was to discuss “Issues related to Prison Reforms” with various stakeholders.

 Experts like Shri. N.Ramachandran IPS (Retd)President, Indian Police Foundation; Dr.M.R.Ahmed (Retd)Director APCA, Vellor; Sh. Somesh Goyal IPS (Retd)Director General of Police & Prison,Himachal Pradesh; Prof. Vijay RaghavanCentre for Criminology and Justice (CCJ), School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai;Dr. K.P. Singh IPS (Retd) Director, IPF Centre for Prison Reforms (Former Director General of Police & Prisons, Haryana); Dr.Ish Kumar IPS (Retd) Director, IPF Centre for Internal Police Reforms (Former Director NCRB) and Dr.Upneet Lalli Head Coordinator (Training & Research)Institute of Correctional Administration,Chandigarhspoke on various aspects of Prison Reforms like Alternatives to Imprisonment, Prisoner’s Reintegration through Livelihood Opportunities, Mental Health Issues inPrisons, Role of NGOs in PrisonAdministration, Premature Release ofPrisoners: Law, Policyand Practice, Policy Issues Affectingthe Performance ofPrison Staff IncludingReforms”. The colloquium provided a meaningful exchange of ideas for taking forward prison reform issues.
