VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS SHO, ASI IN CORRUPTION CASE FOR TAKING BRIBE RS 6,500

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign on Saturday, arrested Sub Inspector (SI) Harpal Singh (82/Jalandhar), posted as SHO police station Dhillwan, Kapurthala district and his subordinate Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Harwant Singh (405/Kapurthala) for taking a bribe of Rs 6,500 and demanding more Rs. 50,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above mentioned accused police officials have been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 6,500 from complaint Iqbal Singh, of village Pandori Kadd, Hoshiarpur district.

Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said police officials in conniving with each other have demanded and taken Rs 6,500 as a bribe by threatening to lodge a NDPS case against him and have confiscated his car, Aadhar card, driving licence and ATM card. They were asking Rs 50,000 more to release his vehicle and documents.

The complainant has also lodged a complaint at the Chief Minister’s anti corruption helpline. The accused police officials have kept his vehicle in their custody for ten days and returned to him when he filed online complaint.

The spokesperson further informed that the VB has investigated the allegations levelled in the online complaint and both the accused police officials were arrested after finding them guilty for accepting a bribe of Rs 6,500 and demanding Rs 50,000 from the complainant.

In this regard a case under section 389, 120-B of IPC and section 7 of prevention of corruption act has been registered against both the above mentioned police officials at VB police station Jalandhar. Further investigation in this case was under progress.

GOVERNMENT HAS DECIDED TO SPEND RS 3.54 CRORES FOR REMEDIATION OF LEGACY WASTE ON DUMP SITES OF MUNICIPAL COUNCIL MANSA: DR.INDERBIR SINGH NIJJAR

    On the direction of Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Mann, development work is being done across the state to provide basic facilities, Clean and Pollution free environment to the people of the state.Local Government Minister Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar said that the department has started Process for remediation of legacy waste at dump sites of Municipal Council Mansa.Cabinet Minister Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar said that a decision has been taken to spend approximately Rs 3.54 crores by the Local Government Department to remediation of Legacy waste at the dump sites of Mansa.Minister further said that providing a clean and pollution-free environment to the people of the state is the top priority of the Mann government so that the people of the state can be protected from serious diseases spread by pollution.He also said that the Local Government Department has uploaded a tender for this work on the Punjab Government website eproc.punjab.gov.in.  He also told that if there is a need to make any amendment in this tender, then the details will be available on this website.Cabinet Minister said that Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann is making full efforts to provide corruption free administration to the people of the state.  If any officer/employee is caught committing corruption, he will not be spared.Minister has also given instructions to the officials to bring transparency and quality in the works of the department.

AMAN ARORA CONDOLES SAD DEMISE OF VETERAN JOURNALIST HARBIR SINGH BHANWAR

Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister Mr. Aman Arora on Monday expressed profound grief over the sad demise of veteran Journalist and a noted writer S. Harbir Singh Bhanwar. He was 84-years-old.

          The veteran journalist breathed his last today morning at a private hospital in Ludhiana.

          S. Bhanwar was a renowned author, who penned down over a dozen of books including a much famed books ‘Diary de Panne’ and ‘Dharam Yudh Morcha’. He was an eminent political analyst and well versed in Sikh religious affairs. During his career as a journalist, he had worked with leading newspapers including Indian Express, The Tribune, Jagran Group etc. He had remained president of the Amritsar Journalists’ Association. He also served as a media advisor to SGPC. 

          Extending his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family, relatives and friends of the deceased, Mr. Aman Arora prayed to the Almighty to give them strength to bear this irreparable loss and grant eternal peace to the departed soul. He will always be remembered for his immense contribution towards the field of journalism, for which he tirelessly worked to uphold the freedom of press, he added.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary Information and Public Relations Mr. Rahul Bhandari and Director Mr. Sonali Giri also shared their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Punjab Government will meet NRI Punjabis of 4 districts on December 19 at Amity University: Amit Talwar

Punjab Government to is going to hold a regional meeting of the NRIs belonging to Mohali, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib and Ropar districts on December 19, 2022 at Amity University, SAS Nagar. 

Disclosing this in a press communique Mr. Amit Talwar, Deputy Commissioner,SAS Nagar said that Minister for NRI Affairs Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal will hold, regional meetings in five cities of Punjab to directly meet the NRI Punjabis for listening to and redressing their grievances. He said that these programmes will also be attended Principal Secretary NRI Affairs, ADGP, NRI Wing, Divisional Commissioner, Jalandhar (as Chairperson NRI Sabha) and will also be attended by Deputy Commissioners, SSPs and DROs of the respective district.

He said that one such regional meeting of the NRI Punjabis belonging to Mohali, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib and Ropar will be conducted on December 19, 2022 at Amity University, SAS Nagar.

CM GIVES NOD TO CONSTRUCT 17 ULTRA MODERN BUILDINGS FOR SUB DIVISIONAL, TEHSIL AND SUB-TEHSIL COMPLEXES ACROSS THE STATE AT A COST OF RS 80 CRORE

In a major step aimed at facilitating the common man in getting their day to day administrative works done, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today gave approval for construction of 17 ultra modern buildings for Sub Divisional, Tehsil and Sub-Tehsil complexes across the state at a cost of Rs 80 crore. “This is part of my government’s commitment to ensure judicious utilization of taxpayers money for their welfare” said the Chief Minister while chairing a meeting to accord approval in this regard. The Chief Minister said that thousands of people go to the Sub Divisional, Tehsil and Sub-Tehsil offices across the state to get their routine administrative works done. He said that in order to ensure that they do not face any sort of inconvenience this decision has been taken. Bhagwant Mann said that this will ensure better working space to the staff working in these offices along with hassle free and smooth delivery of services to the people. The Chief Minister said that these complexes will come up on modern lines to facilitate the masses. He said that out of these Rs 80 crore, Rs 16.06 crore will spent on construction of SubDivision Complex at Dhirbha, Rs 4.46 crore on Sub-Tehsil complex at Cheema, Rs 1.42 crore on Sub Tehsil complex at Balianwali, Rs 1.04 crore on Sub Tehsil Complex Goniana Mandi, Rs 1.47 crore on Sub Tehsil complex Nathana, Rs 4.49 crore on Sub Tehsil complex Dasuya, Rs 6.49 crore on Sub Tehsil complex Kalanaur, Rs 5.80 crore on New Administrative complex Sultanpur Lodhi, Rs 3.96 crore on Administrative complex at Phagwara, Rs 5.95 crore on Tehsil complex at Ahmedgarh, Rs 6.69 crore on Tehsil complex at Amargarh, Rs. 8.61 crore on Administrative complex at Bassi Pathana, Rs 3.50 crore on Sub Division/ Tehsil complex at Abohar, Rs 3.05 crore on Sub Tehsil complex at Banur, Rs 0.5 crore Sub Tehsil complex Majri, Rs 0.5 crore on Sub Tehsil Complex Zirakpur and Rs 5.14 crore on Sub Tehsil complex Sri Chamkaur Sahib.  Bhagwant Mann said that the work on these complexes will start soon and will be completed within the stipulated time period. 

MORE THAN 5 LAKH PEOPLE BENEFITED BY AAM AADMI CLINICS WITHIN 4 MONTHS, PROVING TO BE A BOON FOR PUNJAB

During the last four months more than 5 lakh people have visited Aam the Aadmi Clinics, a unique initiative launched by the Bhagwant Mann government in the field of health care. Revealing this, Punjab Health Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra said that the Aam Aadmi Clinics across the state have received overwhelming response from the common people and the number of patients visiting the clinics daily has exceeded eight thousand.           Jauramajra said that easy access to health services at the Aam Aadmi clinics has been encouraging the people of every nook and corner of the state to visit these centers. He said that so far 5,35,487 people have undergone health treatment at these clinics, while 69,870 people have undergone various 80406 patients have been treated and 11045 laboratory tests have been done in SAS Nagar till 14 November, while district Ludhiana remained second with the treatment of 65861 patients and 5603 clinical tests. Similarly, district Bathinda bagged the third position with 44223 patients and 5922 clinical tests.          The Health Minister said that as per Punjab Government’s commitment to the people to establish a network of such clinics to ensure free quality health services, 100 clinics (65 in urban areas and 35 in rural areas) have been dedicated to the people so far. He said that soon more such clinics would be established across the state.   Jauramajra further said that this initiative of the Aam Aadmi Party government has brought a revolution in the healthcare sector. He said that 90 percent of the patients were getting treatment facilities through these clinics, which has reduced the number of general OPD patients in the government hospitals. 98 types of medicines and 41 different diagnostic tests were being provided free of cost to the people through these clinics, he added.

CM INVITES GERMAN MULTINATIONAL MANUFACTURER OF PUMPS AND VALVES KSB SE AND CO KGAA TO ESTABLISH THEIR OPERATIONS IN THE STATE

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday extended an invitation to German multinational manufacturer of pumps and valves KSB SE and Co KGaA to establish their operations in the state.The Chief Minister met Vice President (Sales Management Water) KSB SE & Co KGaA, Phillip Storch here on Thursday late evening.The Chief Minister extended an invitation to the company to establish their operations in Punjab. He said that Punjab’s political stability, strong connectivity, liberal and pro-industry policies coupled with clean, green and healthy environment with high-quality of life are key advantages for industry. Bhagwant Mann also talked at length about the strengths of the industrial ecosystem of the state and the opportunities for industry.Highlighting the industry-friendly policies of the government, the Chief Minister said that Punjab’s connectivity in terms of road, railways and airways, friendly labour relations with no domicile restrictions and uninterrupted power supply are conducive for industrialists looking to set up their operations in Punjab. Bhagwant Mann also invited senior officials of KSB SE & Co KGaA to attend the Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit scheduled for on February 23-24, 2023. He also showcased Punjab as a land of opportunities and asked the company to invest in the state.Meanwhile, Vice President, (Sales Management Water) KSB SE & Co KGoA Phillip Storch appreciated Punjab’s single-window system for regulatory and fiscal services and ease of doing business rankings.It is worth mentioning that KSB SE & Co KGaA is a German multinational manufacturer of pumps and valves with sales revenues of 2.3 billion euros (i.e. INR 1875 crores). DONATE EYES AND HELP SOMEONE SEE THE WORLD : CHETAN SINGH JAURAMAJRA

Health and Family Welfare Department Punjab is observing 37th Eye Donation Fortnight from 25th August to 8th September. In this 15-day campaign celebrated every year, health institutes and other stakeholders are encouraged to campaign for mass public awareness about eye donation and to motivate citizens to pledge their eyes after death.

Blindness is one of the major public health problems in our country. According to World Health Organization, corneal diseases (Damage to the tissue covering the front of eye called cornea) are among the major causes of vision loss and blindness, after cataract and glaucoma. Loss of sight due to Corneal damage can be corrected through a surgical procedure known as corneal transplantation or Keratoplasty, where the damaged cornea is replaced by a healthy cornea from the donor eye. There are a total of 13 registered eye banks and 30 Cornea Transplantation centres in Punjab.

Health and family Welfare Minister Punjab Chetan Singh Jauramajra made an appeal to the people of Punjab to come forward and pledge their eyes for donation after death and participate in the noble deed of giving the gift of sight to a needy. He stressed upon the urgent need to strengthen IEC (Information Education and Communication) component through Mass Media including digital media where we will be able to motivate the general public and retrieve more and more corneas.

Director Health and Family Welfare Punjab Dr. Ranjit Singh Ghotra while informing about the activities to be undertaken during this fortnight stated that myths and misconceptions relating to eye donation will be busted through awareness. Eye donation pledge forms are available in all District Hospitals,Sub-Division Hospitals and Vision Centres.Moreover now people can pledge to donate their eyes by simply registering online by logging on to the website https://nhm.punjab.gov.in/Eye Donation , after completion of the registration they can download and print their registration form.

Program Officer N.P.C.B.V.I. (National Program for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment) Dr. Neeti Singla said that detailed guidelines have been issued to all the civil surgeons in Punjab to organize IEC activities during the fortnight to spread the message and to create awareness. The target is to clear the backlog of all the corneal blind patients. Inspite of the ongoing pandemic 835 Keraroplasty surgeries have been successfully conducted in the state in the year 2021-22.

BHAGWANT SINGH MANN GOVERNMENT TO ESTABLISH FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES TRAINING INSTITUTE IN LALRU

Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Bhagwant Mann has decided to establish a Punjab Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute to train youth in latest fire fighting techniques. It will be the first institute of its kind in North India.

          Stating this here today, Local Government Minister Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar said that this high tech institute will be constructed in Lalru town of SAS Nagar. The institute to be built in an area of about 20 acres and will be recognized by the Government of India. This institute will be under control of the Punjab Fire and Emergency Services Department.

          He said that in this institute, ultra modern and world level training will be given to the students with the latest technologies. Courses on fire fighting, rescue, fire acts, state acts, national building code, fire safety standards, industrial standards, emergency response system, special service calls, dealing with emergency situations etc. will be conducted in this institute and students will be trained with hi-tech safety equipment.

          According to Dr. Nijjar, the training will be given by international level instructors. Apart from this, services of qualified officers and employees working in Punjab Fire Services will also be taken for training. He said that this institute will also create new employment opportunities for the youths. Apart from this, the officers and employees who are already serving in the fire services can also obtain advanced training from this institute for the better opportunities.

DECISIVE WAR AGAINST DRUGS: SEAPORTS OF GUJARAT AND MAHARASHTRA EMERGE AS NEW HOTSPOTS TO SMUGGLE DRUGS INTO INDIA

As Punjab Police on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Mann  intensified its crackdown on drug smugglers in the state it has emerged that seaports of Gujarat and Maharashtra are the new route to smuggle  drugs into India. In the last two months, Punjab Police has recovered 185.5Kg heroin smuggled via seaports of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The consignments were supposed to be delivered in Punjab, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Sukhchain Singh Gill here on Monday.

          In the latest haul, the SBS Nagar Police on Sunday  recovered 38Kg heroin— that had apparently entered India’s borders via the sea route of Gujarat, from a truck coming from Bhuj in Gujarat. Two persons were  arrested. This recovery is in addition to the 13.51Kg heroin recovered in the state last week, taking the weekly cumulative quantity of heroin to 51.51Kg, the IGP added.

          Earlier, in a joint operation with ATS Gujarat on July 12, Punjab Police recovered 75Kg Heroin from a container at Mundra Port in Gujarat, while, in a similar operation with Maharashtra Police on July 15, 72.5Kg heroin was recovered from a container at the Nhava Sheva Port in Mumbai.

          Addressing his weekly Press Conference on Drug Recovery, the IGP said that Punjab Police have arrested 370 drug smugglers/suppliers after registering 283 first information reports (FIRs), including 33 commercial, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act across the state in the last one week.

 He said that with Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Mann having given the Punjab Police a free hand and full liberty to wage war against drugs, extensive anti-drug drives have been launched to combat the menace of drugs from the border State of Punjab.

 Apart from recovering a big-haul of heroin, the Police have also recovered Rs 1.09 crores of drug money, 13Kg opium, 12Kg ganja, seven quintals of poppy husk, and 1.36 lakh intoxicant pills/capsules/injections/vials among other drugs after carrying out cordon and search operations in drug-affected areas beside laying nakas at vulnerable routes across the state.

          IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that with 17 more Proclaimed Offenders (POs)/Absconders in NDPS cases arrested this week, the total number of arrests reached to 247 since the special drive to arrest POs/absconders was started on July 5, 2022.

 Meanwhile, the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav has strictly ordered all the CPs/SSPs to further tighten the noose around the drug smugglers by identifying all top drug smugglers and the hotspots infamous for drug smuggling in their jurisdictions and launching a combing operation to nab all those selling/smuggling drugs. He also directed the Police chiefs to effectively forfeit the property of all the arrested drug smugglers so that their ill-gotten money could be recovered.
