The scientific community in this institution clearly understands what needs to be done to advance medical knowledge and improve patient care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe title=\"PGIMER Celebrates 12th Annual Research Day\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IJddyIg4ai0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Tandon delivered a special address titled&nbsp;<strong>\u201cWearing Two Hats: Doctor\u2019s Dilemma,\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;where he reflected on the complex responsibilities faced by clinician-scientists.\u201cMost medical professionals in India wear two hats\u2014one of providing patient care and the other of pursuing research. Balancing these responsibilities is not easy, but it is essential if we want to improve healthcare and generate meaningful scientific knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cResearch is never a short journey. It demands patience\u2014sometimes over years or even decades\u2014before its real impact becomes visible. The work we do today may not transform healthcare immediately, but with commitment and rigour it eventually contributes to knowledge that benefits society, \u201d as Prof. Tandon spoke about the nature of scientific discovery, emphasizing that impactful research requires patience and sustained effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chief Guest also highlighted the importance of mentorship and collaborative academic environments as he stated, \u201cGreat research rarely happens in isolation. Institutions that nurture mentorship, collaboration and a critical mass of researchers create an environment where ideas flourish and innovation becomes possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Underscoring the true purpose of scientific inquiry, Prof. Tandon concluded, \u201cThe most sustainable motivation for research is genuine curiosity and the desire to improve patient care. Publications and recognition may follow, but they should never be the sole driving force. Research must remain connected to real health challenges so that the knowledge we generate ultimately improves outcomes for our patients and communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier,&nbsp;<strong>Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER<\/strong>, welcoming the Chief Guest, highlighted the institute\u2019s strong culture of scientific inquiry and research excellence as he stated, \u201cDespite the enormous clinical workload handled by the institute, PGIMER stands on a very high pedestal when it comes to patient care. With an annual patient footfall of nearly&nbsp;<strong>40 lakh<\/strong>, our clinicians remain deeply engaged in delivering healthcare services. Yet, despite this tremendous pressure, our faculty, residents and healthcare professionals continue to pursue high-quality research with remarkable dedication.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Describing the Annual Research Day as the&nbsp;<strong>\u201cDiwali of research\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;at PGIMER, Prof. Lal said, \u201cResearch Day is when the entire scientific effort of the institute comes together. It reminds us that beyond the intense demands of patient care, there is an equally strong commitment among our faculty and residents to push the frontiers of knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Director PGIMER also stressed the need for deeper collaboration between leading medical institutions in the country when he stated, \u201cWe are now moving towards a&nbsp;<strong>research colloquium between PGIMER and AIIMS<\/strong>&nbsp;because the future of science lies in collaboration. Instead of working in silos on similar problems, we must sit together, pool our ideas and resources, and produce research that can have a stronger global impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Lal further acknowledged the contributions of the institute\u2019s founding leaders whose commitment to academic excellence continues to inspire generations of researchers at PGIMER.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlighting the institute\u2019s research achievements,&nbsp;<strong>Prof. Sanjay Jain, Dean (Research)<\/strong>, presented the annual research overview stating, \u201cOver the past year alone, our institute initiated&nbsp;<strong>250 externally funded research projects<\/strong>&nbsp;through agencies such as ICMR, DBT, DST and CSIR, securing nearly&nbsp;<strong>\u20b9140 crore in grants<\/strong>. These numbers are not just statistics\u2014they represent hundreds of questions being explored and solutions being sought to improve patient care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Jain further highlighted, \u201cThis year we are showcasing&nbsp;<strong>329 research papers published in national and international journals<\/strong>, along with&nbsp;<strong>59 innovations currently in the pipeline<\/strong>, seven of which have already been granted patents. Each of these represents the dedication of our faculty and young researchers striving to translate ideas into meaningful healthcare solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The academic extravaganza began with&nbsp;<strong>poster viewing&nbsp;<\/strong>from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM in the area adjoining the NINE Auditorium, where a wide spectrum of research undertaken at PGIMER was displayed. The posters showcased studies conducted and published between April 2025 and March 2026, reflecting the institute\u2019s vibrant research ecosystem and strong interdisciplinary collaborations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Awards were presented across several categories including&nbsp;<strong>medical specialties, surgical specialties, pre- and para-clinical sciences, senior residents, PhD scholars and systematic reviews<\/strong>, recognising outstanding contributions from faculty members and young investigators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>Medical Specialties \u2013 Professors category<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Dr Ajay Duseja<\/strong>&nbsp;from the Department of&nbsp;<strong>Hepatology<\/strong>&nbsp;secured the&nbsp;<strong>First Prize<\/strong>, followed by&nbsp;<strong>Dr Sonu Goel<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health<\/strong>, who received the&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>. The&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>&nbsp;was presented to&nbsp;<strong>Dr Bijaya Kumar Padhi<\/strong>, also from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>Dr Rakesh Kumar Pilania<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Paediatrics<\/strong>&nbsp;received the&nbsp;<strong>Third Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>Surgical Specialties \u2013 Professors category<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Dr Divya Jain<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care<\/strong>&nbsp;secured the&nbsp;<strong>First Prize<\/strong>, followed by&nbsp;<strong>Dr Preethy J Mathew<\/strong>, also from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care<\/strong>, who was awarded the&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>. The&nbsp;<strong>Third Prize<\/strong>&nbsp;was conferred upon&nbsp;<strong>Dr Jaspreet Sukhija<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Ophthalmology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the&nbsp;<strong>Surgical Specialties \u2013 Additional Professors<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Dr Ankur Luthra<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care<\/strong>&nbsp;received the&nbsp;<strong>First Prize<\/strong>.&nbsp;<strong>Dr Vishal Kumar<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Orthopaedics<\/strong>&nbsp;secured the&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>Dr Manjul Tripathi<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Neurosurgery<\/strong>&nbsp;was awarded the&nbsp;<strong>Third Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>Surgical Specialties \u2013 Associate Professors category<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Dr Ajay Singh<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care<\/strong>&nbsp;was awarded the&nbsp;<strong>First Prize<\/strong>. The&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>&nbsp;went to&nbsp;<strong>Dr Savleen Kaur<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Ophthalmology<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>Dr Himanshu Bhayana<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Orthopaedics<\/strong>&nbsp;received the&nbsp;<strong>Third Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>Pre- and Para-Clinical Specialties \u2013 Professors category<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Dr Shivaprakash M. The&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>&nbsp;was awarded to&nbsp;<strong>Dr Ashok Kumar Yadav<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Experimental Medicine and Biotechnology<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>Dr Sheetal Sharma<\/strong>, also from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Experimental Medicine and Biotechnology<\/strong>, received the&nbsp;<strong>Third Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>Pre- and Para-Clinical Specialties \u2013 Associate Professors category<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Dr Gaurav Sharma<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Translational and Regenerative Medicine<\/strong>&nbsp;was awarded the&nbsp;<strong>First Prize<\/strong>.&nbsp;<strong>Dr Praveen Sharma<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Haematology<\/strong>&nbsp;secured the&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>Dr Priya Datta<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Medical Parasitology<\/strong>&nbsp;received the&nbsp;<strong>Third Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>Senior Resident category<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Dr Pritam Halder<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health<\/strong>&nbsp;secured the&nbsp;<strong>First Prize<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>Dr Vibhu Jain<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of General Surgery<\/strong>&nbsp;was awarded the&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>PhD Scholar \/ Pool Officer \/ Research Associate category<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Divya Sharma<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health<\/strong>&nbsp;secured the&nbsp;<strong>First Prize<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>Nimran Kaur<\/strong>, also from the same department, received the&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>Others category<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Yogesh Rathore<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Nuclear Medicine<\/strong>&nbsp;secured the&nbsp;<strong>First Prize<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>Dr Ashok Kumar<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>National Institute of Nursing Education<\/strong>&nbsp;was awarded the&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis category<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Dr Jogender Kumar<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Pediatrics<\/strong>&nbsp;secured the&nbsp;<strong>First Prize<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>Dr Rimesh Pal<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Endocrinology<\/strong>&nbsp;was awarded the&nbsp;<strong>Second Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key highlight of the event was the&nbsp;<strong>felicitation of three distinguished PGIMER faculty members<\/strong>&nbsp;who have been honoured with the prestigious&nbsp;<strong>Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awards<\/strong>&nbsp;for their outstanding scientific contributions.These included&nbsp;<strong>Prof. Ritesh Aggarwal<\/strong>&nbsp;from the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, recipient of the&nbsp;<strong>Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (2020)<\/strong>&nbsp;for his pioneering research on&nbsp;<strong>Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA)<\/strong>;&nbsp;<strong>Prof. Jitendra Kumar Sahu<\/strong>&nbsp;from the Department of Paediatrics, who received the&nbsp;<strong>Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Vigyan Yuva Puraskar (2024)<\/strong>&nbsp;for his work in&nbsp;<strong>paediatric epilepsy<\/strong>; and&nbsp;<strong>Prof. Suresh Kumar<\/strong>, also from the Department of Paediatrics, who received the&nbsp;<strong>2025 award<\/strong>&nbsp;for his research demonstrating the life-saving potential of&nbsp;<strong>probiotics in critically ill children admitted to intensive care units<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by<strong>&nbsp;Prof. R. K.
