The fraudsters used a \u2018Boss Scam\u2019 to send messages to employees of a jewellery showroom in Karnal through a fake WhatsApp number displaying the name and photograph of the showroom owner, instructing them to transfer \u20b91 crore to a bank account. Believing the message to be genuine, the employees transferred the entire amount through RTGS. As soon as the fraud was detected, the victim immediately reported the matter on 1930, following which the Bank Follow-up Team took prompt action and secured the entire amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>DGP Ajay Singhal Commends 1930 Team<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Haryana Police DGP Shri Ajay Singhal appreciated the effective action taken by the Bank Follow-up Team of Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 and its coordination with the concerned banking channel, and congratulated the entire team. He said that time is of utmost importance in cybercrime cases and that action taken at the initial stage can play a crucial role in securing the defrauded amount. He appealed to the public that in case of cyber fraud, instead of panicking or delaying the complaint, they should immediately report the matter on 1930 so that prompt action can be initiated in coordination with the concerned agencies and banking institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Employees Transferred \u20b91 Crore After Seeing Owner\u2019s Name and Photograph<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Superintendent of Police Cyber, Mayank Gupta, said that on September 15, 2026, at 7:48 PM, Smt. Mamta Bansal, resident of Sector-13, Karnal, lodged a complaint on Cyber Crime Helpline 1930. According to the complaint, the complainant and her husband, Vikas, own a jewellery showroom at Nehru Place in Karnal. The employees working at the showroom received messages from a WhatsApp number displaying the name and photograph of the showroom owner, Vikas. The message instructed the employees to transfer \u20b91 crore to a bank account. Seeing the owner\u2019s name and photograph, the employees believed the message to be genuine and, as instructed, transferred \u20b91 crore to the said bank account through RTGS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Fraud Came to Light After SMS Alert Regarding Deduction of Amount from Account<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>At around 5:56 PM, Smt. Mamta Bansal received an SMS informing her that \u20b91 crore had been deducted from the account. She immediately called the showroom to inquire about the transaction. During the conversation, it was found that no such instruction to transfer the large amount had been given by the showroom owner. It subsequently became clear that cyber criminals had created a fake WhatsApp number using the owner\u2019s name and photograph and had misled the employees into making the transaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Bank Follow-up Team Initiated Action Immediately After Complaint on 1930<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As soon as the fraud came to light, the victim reported the matter on Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 without any delay. Immediately upon receiving the complaint, the Bank Follow-up Team of 1930 established coordination with the concerned banking channel and initiated action. As a result of the team\u2019s prompt response and timely and effective bank follow-up, 100 per cent of the \u20b91 crore amount was secured before it could reach the fraudsters. The case once again highlights the importance of reporting cyber fraud promptly.
