Chandigarh, August 13 – Haryana Chief Minister Sh Nayab Singh Saini today said that the Tiranga Yatra is a solemn occasion to pay homage to the martyrs whose supreme sacrifice allows every Indian to live in freedom. He urged people to remember the revolutionary heroes, honor their legacy and care for their families.

Referring to Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi’s call to celebrate the Amrit Mahotsav on the completion of 75 years of independence, the Chief Minister said the celebrations are being observed with full enthusiasm across Haryana. He appealed to every citizen to hoist the Tricolour at their homes, adding that the spirit of patriotism has grown stronger in every heart. The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign should resonate in every house, every village, every street, he said.

The Chief Minister led a Tiranga Yatra in Kurukshetra today, which saw enthusiastic participation from youth, women and elders. Holding the Tricolour aloft, participants raised resounding slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” as the yatra began from Anaj Mandi, Pipli, crossed the National Highway, and concluded at Pooja Model School.

Addressing the gathering, Sh Nayab Singh Saini said that this is not just an event, but an opportunity to pay a true tribute to the spirit of patriotism and sacrifice. Through the Tiranga Yatra, we honor the great sons of the soil who protected our nation and because of whom we breathe in free air today. He urged the people to pledge unity and integrity for the nation, adding that lakhs of soldiers from Haryana’s brave land are always ready to serve Mother India. This Yatra has sent a message across Haryana and the country that patriotism is embedded in every grain of our soil, he said.

Development and Panchayat Minister Shi Krishan Lal Pawar, Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Sh Shyam Singh Rana, District President Sh Tejinder Singh Goldy, Chairman Sh Dharamvir Mirzapur and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

Chandigarh 12 August 2025:

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state today arrested Fire Officer Varinder Kathuria posted at Abohar for receiving a bribe of Rs 20,000/.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the accused demanded a bribe from the complainant Rishav Kalia resident of tehsil Abohar district Fazilka. The complainant Rishav Kalia sells new fire extinguishers and refills old fire extenguishers.

He said accused Varinder Kathuria, fire officer, demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000/- to 30,000/- in the form of commission for the bills to be cleared by him. Besides this, the complainant met the accused at his house regarding clearance of his other bills also.

The complainant did not want to pay a bribe to him for his rightful work. Hence, to get such a corrupt official nabbed by the Vigilance Bureau, the complainant recorded his conversation and reported the matter to VB Unit Fazilka, he added.

The statement of the complainant was recorded at the Vigilance Bureau, Unit Fazilka. Subsequently the accused was caught red handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 20,000/- in presence of Govt. witness and the said case was registered against the aforesaid accused u/s 7 P.C Act 1988, as Amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Range Ferozpur. The instant case is under investigation. The accused Fire officer will be produced before the competent court tomorrow.

The International School Sports Federation (ISF) is going to conduct “World School Volleyball Championship (U15) Boys & Girls” at Shangluo, China from 04th-13th December, 2025. The School Games Federation of India (SGFI) is going to conduct the Centralized Selection Trials to finalize the team (national level) at Balewadi, Pune (Maharashtra) from 25.08.2025 to 30.08.2025.

Chandigarh, August 12, 2025: The Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society today launched its “Intensified IEC Campaign” at UT Guest House, Sector 6, Chandigarh.

The launch event was graced by Mrs. Rachna Verma, W/o Sh. Rajeev Verma, IAS, Chief Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, as the Chief Guest; Sh. Ajay Chagti, IAS, Secretary Health, UT Chandigarh, as Guest of Honour; and Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health Services, UT Chandigarh, as Special Guest.

The campaign was inaugurated with the symbolic release of red balloons by the dignitaries, symbolising hope and the collective commitment to spread HIV/AIDS awareness and make Chandigarh HIV-free.

A vibrant HIV/AIDS awareness walk, led by members of the LGBTQ community, serving as Ambassadors for the campaign, added colour and energy to the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sadbhavna Pandit, Project Director, Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society, shared that this two-month-long intensive campaign will reach every corner of the city, focusing on spreading accurate information about HIV/AIDS and STIs, with special emphasis on prevention, treatment, and stigma reduction.

Key objectives of the campaign include:

1. Promoting awareness about the routes of HIV transmission.
2. Educating people on the provisions of the HIV and AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act, 2017 to combat stigma and discrimination.
3. Raising awareness about HIV and Syphilis among pregnant women and antenatal clinic (ANC) attendees.
4. Creating demand for essential services such as HIV testing, condoms, STI services, and other facilities under the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP), including the National AIDS Toll-Free Helpline 1097.

The programme saw participation from Programme Officers, senior doctors from health institutions, partner NGOs, youth from colleges, and campaign ambassadors from various walks of life, all pledging their support to the mission of a healthier, HIV-free Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, August 12:- In a remarkable initiative to promote cleanliness and environmental awareness, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and children associated with Don Bosco Navjeevan Society continued their citywide campaign across Chandigarh’s green belts and parks. On the ninth day of the ongoing cleanliness drive, the young volunteers carried out a thorough cleaning of the green belt in Sector 26.

Area Councillor Sh. Dalip Sharma also actively participated in the campaign, joining the children in collecting and disposing of garbage into the designated municipal waste vehicle. His presence and involvement highlighted the importance of community participation in keeping public spaces clean and green.

Speaking to the public gathered during the event, Councillor Dalip Sharma emphasized the role each individual can play in maintaining a clean environment. He encouraged residents to keep their homes, schools, workplaces, and surrounding areas clean, and to manage waste responsibly. He further stressed the importance of spreading awareness about cleanliness within families and social circles.

“This cleanliness drive, initiated by the Municipal Corporation in collaboration with social organizations, is a crucial step towards building a cleaner and healthier environment. Known as the Smile Queen of India, Dr. Sheetal Brar introduced and demonstrated for the first time in the tri-city an advanced, non-invasive technology to treat dry eyes. She emphasized that eyes are one of the most important senses, and life without them is hard to imagine. Neglecting eye care can weaken vision and lead to multiple complications.

Dr. Brar explained that dry eye is among the most common eye problems. If your eyes water without crying, if you experience burning, itching, light sensitivity, redness, difficulty seeing at night, blurry vision, or constant eye fatigue, there’s a strong possibility you have dry eye. The root cause, she said, is often inflammation of the meibomian glands—tiny oil glands in the eyelids—which reduces oil secretion as we age. This disrupts the tear film and weakens vision.

Now, with advanced technology, dry eye can be treated at its root while also addressing peri-orbital concerns. This means patients can finally be free from the need for daily artificial tear drops.

In a decisive move to uphold accountability and integrity in the education system, the Punjab Government on Tuesday suspended Devi Prasad, Block Primary Education Officer (BPEO) of Baghapurana, after a video exposing his misconduct went viral on social media.

The action was taken by Secretary School Education, Punjab, Ms. Anindita Mitra, on the directions of Punjab School Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains. The viral video raised serious concerns about the officer’s conduct, prompting immediate intervention by the department.

“The Punjab Government has zero tolerance towards negligence or misconduct in the education system. Strict action will be taken against any official found violating rules or failing in their duties,” said School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains. He emphasized that the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government is committed to ensuring discipline and highest ethical standards in school administration for the benefit of students and staff.
