PGIMER’s Project ‘Sarathi’ Expands Reach: Now Open for All Student Volunteers

Chandigarh:

In a progressive move towards further enhancing patient support services, PGIMER’s flagship volunteer initiative ‘Project Sarathi’ has now been expanded beyond the NSS framework to welcome all interested student volunteers, encouraging broader community participation in patient care.

In another key development, PGIMER has launched a dedicated mobile application for collecting patient feedback. The Sarathi Feedback App will now be made available with each Sarathi volunteer, who will gather real-time feedback from patients and attendants after offering their assistance. This data will help the administration make informed decisions and continuously improve the quality of services.

Sharing his thoughts, Prof.VivekLal, Director PGIMER, stated: “Project Sarathi has been a heartening example of how structured community involvement can transform hospital services. The expansion of volunteer participation and the launch of the feedback app is another step in our commitment to patient-centered care and continuous improvement.”

Echoing the same sentiment, Mr.PankajRai, Deputy Director (Administration), PGIMER , added “The decision to expand beyond NSS was taken in light of the consistently positive response received through daily interactions between Sarathi volunteers, hospital staff, and patients. Recognizing the immense value that volunteers bring in simplifying the patient journey at PGIMER, the institute is now opening the doors for students from all academic backgrounds and institutions to be part of this compassionate initiative.”

Deputy Director (Administration) further detailed, “Project Sarathi, since its inception, has played a vital role in assisting patients and their families in navigating the large and often complex PGIMER system. Volunteers serve as a vital link, particularly for those from rural or underserved backgrounds, by offering clear guidance, emotional reassurance, and human connection during stressful times.

Interested student volunteers eager to contribute to this noble cause can send their requests and details via email to ddapgi@gmail.com. This new structure aims to cultivate a stronger, more inclusive team of young change makers dedicated to patient welfare.

“The updated feedback app will enhance communication, ensuring transparency and responsiveness. PGIMER reaffirms its commitment to participatory healthcare and responsive governance, driven by student initiative and innovative technology”, concluded Mr Pankaj Rai.

Reopen Kartarpur Sahib corridor immediately: Global Sikh Council urges PM Modi

Chandigarh, July 17

With tensions easing and a sustained ceasefire between India and Pakistan for over a month, the Global Sikh Council (GSC), a unified body of national Sikh organizations worldwide, has fervently appealed to the Government of India to immediately reopen the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor which has remained shut since May 7, 2025 following the Pahalgam attack and subsequent border unrest.

In a statement issued today, GSC President Dr. Kanwaljit Kaur and Secretary Harjeet Singh Grewal expressed deep concern over India’s unilateral and indefinite suspension of pilgrimages, despite Pakistan keeping its side of the corridor operational. This abrupt closure has left thousands of Sikh devotees, both from India and abroad, disheartened as they are unable to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Pakistan – one of the holiest Sikh shrines, marking the final resting place of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

In a written appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the GSC emphasized that the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor was established as a historic gesture of faith, peace, and international goodwill. Dr. Kaur stressed that religious access must not be held hostage to political tensions, especially when normalcy had already been restored between the two nations.

“The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor is not merely a physical passage, it is a spiritual lifeline for the Sikh qaum worldwide. With hostilities subsided and peace has prevailed, there is no justifiable reason to keep this sacred pathway closed any longer,” they said.

The GSC has urgently called upon the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs to take swift action and resume the cross-border pilgrimage facility. “Shri Kartarpur Sahib transcends politics, it is a matter of spiritual rights and religious freedom. Its continued closure due to political or administrative reasons is unjustified and deeply wounds the sentiments of the global Sikh Sangat,” they added.

The Global Sikh Council firmly believes that reopening the corridor would not only uphold religious freedom but also strengthen goodwill and promote international peace. The Council has also appealed to Sikh organizations, the Punjab government, Members of Parliament, and civil society to unite in demanding the immediate reopening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, ensuring that devotees could once again start to pay their respects at this sacred shrine.
