CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, February 3:

          Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled an illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of three operatives and recovered seven sophisticated pistols from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.

          Those arrested have been identified as Resham Singh alias Ghulla (30), a resident of village Daleri in Tarn Taran, Sumit alias Sachin (28), a resident of Gumanpura in Amritsar and Vishal Kumar (22), a resident of Bhikhiwind in Tarn Taran. The recovered pistols include three 9MM Glock Pistols, one 9MM Beretta made in Italy, one 9MM Zigana made in Turkey, one 9MM PX5 Glock made in Turkey and one .30 bore pistol.

          DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused persons were directly in contact with a Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms, who used to send consignments of illegal arms via drones. As per directions of their handlers, arrested accused persons further delivering these illegal weapons to intended recipients, he said.

          The DGP said that further investigation is ongoing to establish forward and backward linkages in this case.

          Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on specific and reliable secret information, police teams carried out a well-planned operation during which accused Resham Singh alias Ghulla was apprehended and two 9mm Glock pistols were recovered from his possession, while three more pistols were recovered from a spot pinpointed by him in his disclosure statement, he said.

          The CP said that during further interrogation, arrested accused Resham alias Ghulla revealed about his accomplice identified as Sumit alias Sachin, who was also arrested during the operation and two pistols were recovered from his possession. On further investigation, accused Vishal Kumar was also arrested in the late evening, he added.

          He said that arrested accused persons had common handler on whose directions accused Resham used to pick-up the consignments from near the border, while Sumit alias Sachin was delivering them further in the disguise of his car sale/purchase business.

          In this regard, a case FIR No. 18 dated 01-02-2026 has been registered under sections 25(1-A), 6, 7 and 8 of the Arms Act at Police Station Cantonment in Amritsar.

Information and Public Relations Department, Punjab today bid a warm farewell to Information and Public Relations Officer (IPRO) ND Sharma who retired after an illustrious career spanning nearly three decades. Mr. Sharma’s journey with the department began in 1998, when he joined as Hindi translator. Over the years, his dedication, linguistic expertise, and passion for work propelled him to key roles, culminating in his most recent position as Public Relations Officer and Hindi Desk Incharge.

ND Sharma also overlooked Hindi Jagriti magazine as an editor which was also a testament to his skills and hard work. Throughout his tenure, he played a pivotal role in documenting high-profile government events and the cultural heritage of Punjab.

A brief retirement ceremony was also held to honor Sharma’s outstanding contributions to the department which was attended by Additional Director Randeep Singh Ahluwalia, Joint Directors Ishwinder Singh Grewal, Preet Kanwal Singh & Manvinder Singh and Deputy Directors Navdeep Singh Gill and Narinderpal Singh Jagdeo. The DIPR team extended heartiest congratulations to Sharma PN his superannuation.

Punjab Education Minister and Sri Anandpur Sahib MLA S. Harjot Singh Bains on Tuesday announced the issuance of the final notification for the long-awaited four-laning of the Nangal-Kiratpur Sahib road, paving the way for the project to commence shortly. Terming it as a “long-cherished public demand and a personal commitment, S Bains said the project would significantly improve safety, connectivity and economic activity in the region.

S. Harjot Singh Bains stated that the land acquisition process would be completed within next two months, after which tendering and on-ground construction would begin at the earliest.

In a video message, S. Bains recalled that the project’s groundwork began with a detailed survey in July 2022. He underscored the urgent need for the upgrade, particularly at the Nangal-Ganguwal stretch, which has remained accident-prone for years and has resulted in the loss of several lives.

“This road is not merely an infrastructure project. It is a lifeline for the people of the region as it serves daily commuters and thousands of pilgrims travelling to prominent religious destinations such as Mata Bagla Mukhi, Baba Balak Nath and Mata Chintpurni. Based on strong survey data and continuous follow-up with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the case for four-laning was firmly established.”

The Cabinet Minister attributed the project’s progress to persistent engagement with authorities at all levels. “This was a people-driven demand. From senior officials to project directors, the matter was pursued relentlessly. As an elected representative, my priority has always been to deliver development on the ground,” he said.

With the final notification issued and land records now being published, S. Bains said all preliminary formalities have been completed. “Our target is to finish land acquisition within a record time of two months and proceed swiftly towards tendering and execution,” he added.

Highlighting the broader impact of the project, S. Harjot Singh Bains said the four-lane road would act as a catalyst for economic growth across the region. Citing Bharatgarh’s development, he noted that improved connectivity attracts hotels, businesses and investments, generating employment opportunities for local youth.

“The improved road network will benefit nearly 100 surrounding villages by enabling easier access to markets. Tourism will also see a major boost, positively impacting small traders, shopkeepers and local entrepreneurs,” he said.

Minister Bains also listed several infrastructure initiatives already undertaken in the constituency, including construction of a uniquely designed foot overbridge near Sarsa Nangal, development of service roads from Bara Pind to Bharatgarh.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the project, stating, “This road represents my vision for the future of our region. With the blessings of the Guru Sahib and people, we will ensure its timely completion and usher in a new era of safety, connectivity and prosperity.”

Chandigarh February 3, 2026:

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against the corruption in the state, has apprehended Mohammad Yasin, Rent Collector posted at Punjab Waqf Board office, Garhshankar and Mohammad Talim, Contract based Peon posted at  Punjab Waqf Board office, Garhshankar,  red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 18000/-.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of  Balachaur, district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Punjab.

He said that the complainant who is an agriculturalist, had taken 10 kanals of land belonging to the Punjab Waqf Board situated at village Bhaddi, tehsil Balachaur, on lease for the period 2018 to 2021. After the lease expired in 2021, the complainant approached accused Mohammad Yasin at the Punjab Waqf Board office, Garhshankar, for renewal of the lease.

He further informed that the accused Mohammad Yasin demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000/- for preparing the file for renewal of the lease. Complainant expressed his inability to pay the said amount, then the demand of bribe was reduced to Rs. 20,000/-. Out of this, Rs. 2,000/- as bribe was taken by accused Mohammad Yasin on the spot, and the complainant was asked to pay the remaining Rs. 18,000/-later. The complainant recorded the conversation.

After a preliminary enquiry of his complaint, the VB team SBS Nagar laid a trap during which both accused were arrested red handed while accepting  bribe money of Rs 18000/-  from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation into this case is under progress.

CHANDIGARH, February 3:

          As the decisive ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign launched under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann enters its 15th day, Punjab Police on Tuesday conducted 666 raids at the at identified and mapped locations linked to associates of gangsters across the state.

          As per the information, the “Gangstran Te Vaar”— a decisive war to make Punjab a gangster-free state was launched by the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026. Police teams from all the districts in coordination with Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab has been conducting special operations across the state.

          On Day 15, Police teams arrested 163 individuals and recovered two weapons from their possession, taking the total arrests to 4,396 since the launch of the campaign.

 Apart from this, preventive action has been taken against 141 persons, whereas, 255 persons were verified and released after questioning. Police teams have also arrested four proclaimed offenders (POs) during the operation.

          People can anonymously report information related to wanted criminals and gangsters, and also share tips on crime and criminal activity, through the Anti Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946.

          Meanwhile, Police teams have continued its drive against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” for 339th day with 143 drug smugglers arrested on Tuesday and recovered 12.2 kg heroin, 12 kg Ganja and 2412 intoxicant tablets/capsules from their possession. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 47,435 in just 339 days. As part of De-addiction, the Punjab Police has convinced 40 persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment today.

During the meeting, Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “Punjab is the best state in the country from the investment point of view as it is credited with the best infrastructure facilities, surplus power, a pool of skilled manpower, excellent road, rail and air connectivity, a flawless telecommunication network and above all, ease of doing business,”

Elaborating on the opportunities available, the Punjab CM said that Punjab offers immense scope for investment in sectors such as electric vehicles, financial and digital services, digital transformation and cyber security, renewable energy and sustainability, healthcare and social impact, industrial and real estate collaboration, strategic acquisitions and investments, among others. “Punjab has always been a land of resilience, enterprise and rich heritage, and the Hinduja Group can be immensely benefited from it,” he said, adding that Punjab is proud to be the Food Basket of India and contributes the largest share to the nation’s grain pool.

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann noted that while Punjab has traditionally played a vital role in ensuring the country’s food security, the state’s industrial journey has now taken a dynamic turn. “Today Punjab is an industrial powerhouse, leading in sectors such as food processing, textiles, auto components, hand tools, bicycles, information technology, tourism and others,” he said.

Highlighting the confidence reposed by global corporations, the Chief Minister said that Punjab is home to several prestigious international companies including Nestlé, Claas, Freudenberg, Cargill, Verbio and Danone, all of which have established operations in the state and are contributing to its economic transformation. “These international companies recognise Punjab’s potential and the conducive environment we provide for businesses to thrive,” CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, adding that the state’s global reach is evident through investments from countries such as Japan, the United States of America, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, France, Spain and others.

The Chief Minister said that Punjab’s growth story is only at its beginning. “Punjab has truly become a preferred investment destination not only for Indian investors but also for investors from across the world,” Bhagwant Singh Mann said. He informed that in recent months, the state government has undertaken high-level international engagements in Japan and the Republic of Korea, which have further strengthened Punjab’s global partnerships. “These engagements have opened new avenues for collaboration in advanced manufacturing, electric vehicle mobility, electronics and display technologies, renewable energy, food processing and sports science,” he said.

Referring to interactions with global industry leaders, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that leading companies and institutions in Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul had expressed strong confidence in Punjab’s governance model, the state’s skilled workforce and its commitment to aftercare. “The learnings from these global innovation hubs, whether Japan’s excellence in precision manufacturing and research and development or Korea’s dynamic models like Pangyo Techno Valley, are now being integrated into Punjab’s next phase of industrial development,” he said, adding that the state has created an investor-friendly ecosystem that promotes ease of doing business.

The Chief Minister further stated that Punjab ranks as a Top Achiever in Ease of Doing Business and has launched the Fast Track Punjab Portal, described as India’s most advanced single-window system. “The portal offers single entry and exit with over 200 government-to-business approvals and services, ensures zero offline applications and fast-track approvals,” he said.

The Punjab CM added that through the Punjab Right to Business Act, the state provides in-principle approval within just five days for eligible units up to Rs 125 crore. “Punjab is the first state to introduce major regulatory reforms such as time-bound clearances within 45 days, deemed approvals, escalation mechanisms and extended validity for key licences,” he said.

Emphasising investor facilitation, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that support mechanisms such as WhatsApp alerts, artificial intelligence chatbots and call centres ensure real-time responsiveness. “Digital chief risk officer reports, extended validity of fire no-objection certificates and leasehold-to-freehold conversions are further simplifying operations,” he said.

Reiterating the importance of collaboration, he said that partnership between government and industry is central to success. “Industrial growth can only be achieved when government and industry work as equal partners,” he said, adding that this principle underpins the New Industrial Policy of Punjab introduced in 2022. “The policy was shaped in consultation with industry leaders and stakeholders to ensure it caters to their needs and aspirations,” he said.

The Chief Minister informed the industry leaders that the state has constituted 24 sectoral committees, each chaired by captains of industry, to formulate sector-specific policies. “The state government is fully committed to forging a partnership of equality, transparency and mutual support with industries and businesses,” CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said.

Inviting industry leaders to the Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit 2026, scheduled to be held at Plaksha University, IT City, Mohali, Punjab from March 13 to 15, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the summit will bring together industry leaders, policymakers and innovators. “It will serve as a platform to share ideas and collaborate on shaping Punjab’s future industrial landscape,” he said.

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, today commenced the two-day Mumbai Investment Roadshow as part of the Government of Punjab’s strategic investment outreach. The roadshow was held as a key pre-summit initiative ahead of the Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit 2026, scheduled from 13–15 March 2026 in Mohali.

The Mumbai Roadshow aimed to formally extend summit invitations to leading industry stakeholders and deepen investment engagement with corporates, financial institutions, and sector leaders, while showcasing Punjab’s reform-oriented, investor-friendly governance framework.

On the first day of the roadshow, the Punjab delegation held a series of high-level one-to-one meetings with senior leadership from prominent corporate groups including Hindustan Unilever Limited, Motilal Oswal Group, Cargill India, Hinduja Group, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited, Waaree Group, Parksons Packaging, and Whistling Woods International.

The discussions focused on exploring expansion and new investment opportunities in Punjab across sectors such as FMCG, agri-business, food processing, energy, logistics, manufacturing, packaging, and creative industries. The State’s FastTrack single-window clearance system, time-bound approvals, Right to Business framework, policy stability, skilled manpower, and robust industrial infrastructure were highlighted during these interactions.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister was hosted by Ashok P. Hinduja, Chairman, Hinduja Group. On this occasion, the Chief Minister formally released a book titled “Coins of the Kunindas (Punjab Region)”, reflecting Punjab’s rich historical and cultural heritage alongside its forward-looking economic vision.

The first day concluded with a Punjab Roadshow Session, which witnessed strong participation from senior industry leaders representing marquee organisations such as Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Steel, Accenture, UPL, Tynor, Whistling Woods, GrowthCap Ventures, and World Trade Center Mumbai. Industry representatives shared perspectives on Punjab’s industrial potential and highlighted the facilitative governance environment and responsive institutional support extended by the State.

Addressing industry participants, the Chief Minister conveyed that this is the right time for investors to invest in Punjab. He emphasised that the State is well positioned to serve as a competitive manufacturing and services base, supplying not only domestic markets but also global value chains. The Chief Minister called upon industry to scale operations from Punjab, move up the value chain, and place greater focus on research and development to enhance innovation, productivity, and global competitiveness.

The Chief Minister further reiterated the Government of Punjab’s commitment to enabling micro, small and medium enterprises to grow into large enterprises, strengthening manufacturing and services, and positioning Punjab as a preferred investment destination in North India through sustained reforms, infrastructure development, and proactive investor facilitation.

Punjab Revenue and Housing & Urban Development Minister S. Hardeep Singh Mundian today held marathon meetings with various unions.

During separate meetings held at Punjab Bhawan here with representatives of the Revenue Patwar Union, Kanoongo Union, Sanjha Mulazim Manch PUDA and the All India Terrorism Victims Association, the Cabinet Minister assured that all their legitimate demands would be addressed on priority.

S. Hardeep Singh Mundian said that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is fully committed to the welfare of every section of society. The Revenue Minister sympathetically listened to the demands put forth by various associations and unions.

He said that demands which can be resolved at the departmental level will be settled expeditiously on a priority basis, while matters requiring intervention at the level of the Chief Minister or the Finance Department will be taken up soon through meetings with Chief Minister and Finance Minister.

The Revenue Minister informed representatives of the Patwari and Kanoongo associations that Patwaris and Kanoongos showing commendable performance in discharge of their duties will be honoured and encouraged. He also urged all employees to perform their duties with dedication, honesty and responsibility.

While deliberating seriously on the demands of the Sanjha Mulazim Manch PUDA, the Cabinet Minister said that the issue of extending pension scheme benefits to PUDA retire employees will be effectively taken up with Chief Minister at the earliest.

During the meeting with representatives of the All India Terrorism Victims Association, S. Hardeep Singh Mundian said that assistance, security and rehabilitation of terrorism-affected families remain a priority of the Punjab Government. He assured that the genuine demands raised by the association would be examined seriously in coordination with the concerned departments and all possible and appropriate steps would be taken for their redressal.

Prominent amongst others who were present in the meetings included Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Financial Commissioner Revenue Sh. Anurag Verma and Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Mr. Vikas Garg and others.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Sunday called out the BJP-led Centre for completely ignoring Punjab’s needs and sacrifices in Union Budget 2026, pointing out that there is no mention of Punjab anywhere in the budget and no reference to the long-pending Rural Development Fund (RDF) of ₹8,500 crore that is legitimately due to the state.

Declaring the budget anti-farmer, anti-education and anti-health, the Punjab Finance Minister said Punjab has once again been pushed to manage on its own despite bearing the burden of national food security, facing the impact of repeated natural calamities and responsibly handling RDF-related obligations, while receiving no relief for common people and no meaningful support from the Centre for the 12th consecutive year.

Addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the budget represents a deliberate attempt to derail the growth of Punjab, a state that has made unparalleled sacrifices for the nation. “The mindset of the BJP in power at the Centre has become a big threat to the country’s democracy and especially Punjab. The Union Budget 2026 is anti-education, anti-health and inimical to the farmers, the poor, traders and even the security of Punjab. Through this budget, a nasty attempt has been made to derail the growth of Punjab, which has made great sacrifices for the country,” he said.

The Finance Minister said that Punjab has been completely sidelined for the 12th consecutive year in the budget presented by the BJP-led Central Government. “The memorandum submitted by Punjab to the Union Finance Minister has been blatantly ignored. Punjab has always stood firm in the defence of the country and has not reduced its contribution to the Central food pool. In fact, our contribution has increased every year. Because Punjab has continuously replenished the country’s food reserves, 117 blocks of the state’s groundwater have gone into the dark zone,” he said.

Taking strong objection to the approach of the 16th Finance Commission, the Punjab Finance Minister said the Centre has turned a blind eye towards the states. “The poor financial condition of states has been completely ignored. The vertical devolution, which is the total share of all states in the tax pool, has been kept unchanged at 41 percent. There is no increase at all despite the fiscal stress faced by states. The 16th Finance Commission has not recommended any Revenue Deficit Grants, whereas the 15th Finance Commission had done so. Conditions imposed on the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) are overly restrictive and will severely affect states like Punjab in effectively mitigating and managing disasters,” he said.

Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the Union Government has once again ignored the legitimate concerns of Punjab’s farmers, exposing its hollow claims of being pro-farmer. “There is neither any increase in the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund nor any concrete assistance to strengthen mandi infrastructure. There is absolutely nothing for farmers of Punjab in terms of increased allocation to the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund or for strengthening mandi infrastructure in Union Budget 2026. States will now be forced to do all this from their own funds. The budget talks about high-value crops but has completely left out Punjab,” he said.

The Punjab Finance Minister pointed out that farmers of Punjab feed the nation, yet the Union Government continues to neglect investment in systems that ensure food security. “The selective approach towards high-value crops is deeply discriminatory. The budget mentions crops like coconut, cashew, sandalwood and dry fruits, but there is nothing for farmers in North India who depend on crops suited to their agro-climatic conditions. This budget clearly reflects the Centre’s bias and its continued indifference towards farmers of food grain producing states, especially Punjab. These farmers deserve respect, support and appropriate investment, not empty slogans,” he said.

Criticising the reduction in subsidies and the absence of relief for common citizens, Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said, “Urea subsidy has been reduced from ₹1,26,475 crore last year to ₹1,16,805 crore this year. There is nothing for the common people in this budget. There is zero tax relief at a time when incomes are stagnant and inflation is eating into the savings of common people. Instead, the Government of India has increased the Securities Transaction Tax, which will adversely impact the common man. There is also no relief on Long-Term Capital Gains. It is like squeezing the common man from all sides.”

On defence, the Punjab Finance Minister said expectations have been completely belied. “Given last year’s tensions with Pakistan, we were expecting major announcements to strengthen defence production and a meaningful increase in the defence budget. Nothing of that sort has happened. Defence finds mention only four times in the Union Finance Minister’s speech,” he said.

Referring to the PM-Vishwakarma Scheme, he said, “This scheme was launched last year with much fanfare to provide holistic, end-to-end support to traditional artisans and craftspeople. Instead of strengthening it, the budget allocation has been reduced from ₹5,100 crore to ₹3,861 crore. On one hand, the government claims this is a Yuva-Shakti Budget aimed at developing legacy industries, and on the other hand, it cuts the budget for a scheme meant exactly for that purpose.”

On education, Minister Harpal Singh Cheema termed the budget “deeply uninspiring”. “There is less than 10 percent growth, around 8 percent, in the education budget compared to last year. The allocation for the PM-SHRI scheme remains unchanged at ₹7,500 crore. There is no mention at all of Special Assistance to States for Capital Creation. All states had requested extension and enhancement of this scheme to sustain high levels of capital expenditure, but the Centre has ignored this demand,” he said.

On the health front, he said, “The Ayushman Bharat scheme budget remains unchanged at ₹9,500 crore. The Swachh Bharat Mission budget has been halved to ₹2,500 crore from ₹5,000 crore last year. Allocation under VB-G-RAM-G has been increased to ₹95,692 crore from ₹88,000 crore under MGNREGA, but at the same time, the Border Infrastructure and Management Scheme budget has been reduced from ₹5,597 crore last year to ₹5,577 crore in the current budget,” he added.

Summing up, the Punjab Finance Minister said the Union Budget 2026 reflects the Centre’s apathy towards Punjab and its people. “This budget ignores Punjab’s contribution, overlooks its challenges and undermines its future. It neither strengthens the nation’s security nor supports farmers, workers, youth or states. Punjab and its people deserve far better than this,” said Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.

Interacting with a delegation of the National Defence College that called on him here today, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Punjab has given the Indian Armed Forces distinguished military leaders and braveheart soldiers who have always made supreme sacrifices for the country.” He said, “It is heartening to learn that the National Defence College, New Delhi, is on a visit to Punjab from February 2 to 6.”

Welcoming the delegation upon their arrival in the state, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “This socio-political study tour is aimed at understanding and learning about Punjab’s social, economic, political and other sectors.”

Extending a warm welcome to the delegation on the sacred soil of Punjab, the Chief Minister said, “The state government feels privileged to host you.” He apprised the delegation, saying, “Punjab is the holy land of great Gurus, saints, seers, prophets and martyrs, and it is known as the land of brave and hardworking people.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The youth of the state protect the borders, and our farmers keep the country’s granaries secure, due to which Punjab is proudly known as the ‘Food Bowl and Sword Arm of India’.”

The Chief Minister said, “Punjab’s farmers contribute the most to the country’s grain production, and 40 percent of the food grains in the national pool are contributed by the state.” He added, “The brave soldiers from Punjab have sacrificed their lives to protect the country’s unity, integrity and sovereignty, and it is a fact that Punjabis made the maximum sacrifices in the country’s freedom struggle.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Punjab is a peaceful state where peace, mutual love and communal harmony are so strong that the seeds of hatred cannot germinate here.”

The Chief Minister said, “Despite being a border state, Punjab has never been divided along sectarian lines. Instead, Punjabis have set beautiful examples of communal harmony before the world during times of crisis.” He further said, “The holy city of Amritsar is known as a symbol of all-inclusive coexistence and is home to sacred sites like Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Mandir, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh and others.” He added, “Punjab shares a 532-kilometre-long international border with a hostile country, yet it has remained an epitome of secularism, peace and amity.”

The Chief Minister said, “As part of the study of India’s socio-political and economic aspects, a week-long tour has started in Punjab.” He added, “This course provides an opportunity to visit states and gain in-depth knowledge about their social, political, economic, cultural and religious aspects.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “It also allows a better perspective on the challenges of implementing administration, governance and law and order at the state level down to the village level.” He said, “The delegation consists of a total of 16 officers, with 31 percent representation from foreign officers, as five of the 16 officers are from abroad.”

The Chief Minister said, “The delegation includes one officer each from Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia and Nepal.” He added, “There are 11 Indian officers, including Army five, Navy two, Air Force two, AFHQCS one and DoLR one.” CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The delegation includes officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force at Brigadier or Secretary level, as well as civil officers.”

The Chief Minister said, “Civil officers from services including IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS, Coast Guard and DRDO are also part of this ambitious course.” He added, “The course covers areas such as knowledge about India and strategic orientation, economic security, science and technology, global issues, the international security environment, strategic aspects of neighbouring countries, and strategies and structures for national security.” On the occasion, Bhagwant Singh Mann also felicitated the members of the visiting delegation and said, “I wish them a comfortable stay in the state.”

CHANDIGARH, February 2:

          As the decisive ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make Punjab a gangster-free state completed two weeks, Punjab Police has arrested 4,233 individuals including gangsters and criminals associated with them after conducting 14,382 raids across the state since the launch of the campaign.

          As per the information, the “Gangstran Te Vaar”— a decisive war to make Punjab a gangster-free state was launched by the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026. Police teams from all the districts in coordination with Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab have been conducting raids at the identified and mapped locations linked to associates of gangsters.

          As part of the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, well-coordinated strong nakas were set up under the supervision of Inspectors/DSPs on Monday, and an extensive checking of vehicles and suspicious people is being conducted across the state.

          Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla, while interacting with media after inspecting the naka at Godrej Chowk in Mohali, said that police teams have recovered 116 weapons along with 262 live cartridges and 23 magazines from the possession of arrested individuals.

          Apart from this, preventive action has been initiated against 2,311 persons, whereas, 4,008 persons were verified and released after questioning, he said, while adding that Police teams have also arrested 283 proclaimed offenders (POs) in last 14 days.

          On Day 14, Police teams arrested 172 individuals after conducting 613 raids, while, preventive action has been taken against 159 persons and arrested nine proclaimed offenders (POs).

          Meanwhile, Police teams have continued its drive against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” for 338th day with 81 drug smugglers arrested on Monday and recovered 1.3 kg heroin, 1053 intoxicant tablets/capsules and Rs 1.23 lakhs drug money from their possession. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 47,498 in just 338 days. As part of De-addiction, the Punjab Police has convinced 11 persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment today.
