Chandigarh: Premiering on Chaupal OTT on August 14, the Punjabi web series “84 Toh Baad” delves into the fear, political pressure, and pursuit of justice in Punjab after the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Penned by author Jarnail Singh and brought to life by director Guramanat Singh Patanga, this period thriller is not only a gripping crime drama but also a social chronicle of that turbulent era.
At the heart of the story is Bagarah Singh (Kuljinder Sidhu) — a name that still evokes fear in people’s minds. His past is intertwined with power, intimidation, and untold events. The narrative takes a sharp turn when Advocate Amandeep Kaur (Dr. Drishti Talwar) decides to reopen old wounds and takes it upon herself to uncover the truth.
Author Jarnail Singh himself portrays Professor Shamsher Singh — a sensitive and principled man who plays a pivotal role in the fight for truth and justice. Alongside him, Gursebad, Satyajit, Mehboob Ishar, and Sandeep Sharma lend strong performances that anchor the story.
“84 To Baad” goes beyond crime and mystery, vividly portraying the socio-political atmosphere of the time, the suffering of ordinary people, and the battle between truth and those in power. It exposes a dark chapter of history long buried under the dust of time.
