Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Sh. J.P Dalal and Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture and Farmers’ welfare Department, Dr. Sumita Misra visited Cranfield University in Bedford, a premier institute in the UK for Research and development of post-harvest technologies.
This University shall be part of the consortia of the University of Birmingham that has signed an MoU with Haryana.
The Cranfield University will help Haryana to further develop applied research on the fundamentals of postharvest physiology; pre-harvest factors, biochemistry, ripening, Preservation methods, cool chain, packaging, ethylene, specialist treatments, Postharvest diseases, physiology, pathology, principles of disease control, Quality control; biochemical changes, assessment methods and Food waste management.
The proposed ‘Centre for Post-Harvest and Cold Chain Management’ shall have various units where applied research will be conducted. This Centre shall develop post-harvest solutions that will help farmers and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to address their solutions. The Centre will also have an incubation Centre, Startup an ecosystem where budded entrepreneurs can start and establish their businesses.
