IEP Chandigarh
A one day workshop had been organized by the department of psychiatry P.G.I.M.E.R. Chandigarh. It was on “Joining hand against: Child abuse and protection”. It was inaugurated by Director PGIMER, Dr.(Prof) Vivek Lal in the presence of Prof Debasish Basu, HOD Psychiatry, Prof Vipin Kaushal (Medical Superintendent) and other former faculty members of the institute. Topic of discussions were, what is child abuse, why we all should know about it and how to deal with it. Prof Shekhar Sheshadri (Former HOD, NIMHANS) emphasized the importance of knowing about child abuse and it implications on child and family as whole. He also emphasized on the developmental aspects related to child abuse and its legal implications. Panel discussion was conducted on the role of stakeholders in child abuse, the panelists were Mrs Harjinder Kaur (Chairperson, Chandigarh commission for protection of child rights), Sh Surender Kumar (Addl. Dist. & Session judge, Member Secretary of state legal service authority), Ms Sita devi (DSP & incharge special juvenile police unit Chandigarh) and Dr Satinder kaur Sachdev (Chairperson, Child welfare committee Chandigarh). Approximately 200 delegates were registered for the workshop & actively participated in all the sessions.
