Chandigarh Administration celebrated the 75th Republic Day with full patriotic fervor at Parade Ground, Chandigarh today. The Adviser to Administrator Chandigarh Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav was the chief guest on the occasion.
The celebrations began with the hoisting of National Flag by the Adviser to the Administrator which was followed by the inspection of the Guard of Honour. The March Past by various contingents of Police and NCC Cadets instilled the spirit of patriotism among those present at the venue. The Republic day parade also saw a colourful display of tableaux from different departments including Education department, Civil Defence, Science and Technology and Municipal Corporation, emphasizing on social messages and development. The cultural performances by students from different schools, colleges and GRIID of Chandigarh was another highlight of the celebrations.
Sh. Nitin Yadav addressed the audience by recalling the struggles and sacrifices of our freedom fighters who fought for the independence and sovereignty of our country. He re-emphasised the significance of 26th January as the citizens got the Constitution on this date in 1950. “Be it technological adaptations in education or latest scientific techniques in solid waste management, our teams are creating new milestones in development of the city. Due to various steps taken to improve the standard of living, the city has come in top 11 in the country and next year will come in top 5. We have also initiated the process of recruitment of 1100 teachers which will raise the standards of education to yet another level” said the Adviser. Sh. Nitin Yadav, in his speech, paid tribute to Tribute to Late Shri Santokh Singh, Senior Photo Journalist, Rozana Spokesman for his contribution in the field of media. He lauded the leaders and institutions who could forsee India as one of the strongest democracies in the world. He reiterated that the ‘City Beautiful Chandigarh’ is a symbol of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’ owing to its beautiful amalgamation of heritage and modern developments. Sh. Yadav said that the the administration reached every nook and corner of the city through ‘Viksit Bharat Yatra’ under the aegis of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, so that as to benefit every citizen with the schemes provided by Government of India. The Adviser expressed his gratitude to the Administrator, Chandigarh, Sh.Banwarilal Purohit for generously leading Chandigarh to the roadmap of success and growth. He also thanked the Secretaries, Head of Departments, Boards, Municipal Corporation, DGP and Mayor for working tirelessly for the city.
Commendation certificates were awarded to 27 employees of the Chandigarh Administration and general public for rendering outstanding services in the field of Public services, Art and Culture, Social Services and Sports. Two Police personnel were also conferred President’s Police Medal and 24 Police personnel were conferred with Administrator’s Police Medal for their distinguished and meritorious services. The Punjab Police Platoon -1 received the overall Best Contingency Award in the parade. The first prize in the category of Police Contingent went to Chandigarh Police Female-2, second position was bagged by CRPF and Chandigarh Police Male-2 came third. In the category of Home Guard/ Fire Brigade/ Civil Defence, the first prize was bagged by Chandigarh Home Guard, second position was bagged by Chandigarh Fire Services and Chandigarh Civil Defence came third. In NCC contingents, NCC Army Wing Boys and Girls bagged the first position, NCC Army Wing Girls came second and NCC Naval Wing came third. In the category of Road Safety/ Platoon Scouts/ Guides, the first prize was bagged by GMSSS-10 Ambulance, second position was bagged by GMSSS-27 Girls Guides and GMSSS-16 Road Safety came third. In NSS category, GMSSS-40 Boys bagged the first position, SGGPS-35 Girls came second and Shivalik Public School NSS Boys came third. In School Band category, GMSSS-10 bagged the first position, Moti Ram Arya School came second and GMSSS-33 came third. In Tableau category, Civil Defence Chandigarh bagged the first position, Science and Technology came second and Government College of Arts came third. In Cultural programme trophy, GMSSS-18 bagged the first position and Special Children came second.
