Chandigarh, April 12
Haryana Industry and Commerce, Environment, Forest and Wild Life Minister Rao Narbir Singh said that environmental pollution has become a serious problem not just for Gurugram but for the entire country. The government alone cannot control pollution; it needs the active participation of the public as well.
Rao Narbir was addressing dental experts and students from across India as the Chief Guest at the 27th PG Convention of the Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) held at the SGT University in Gurugram on Saturday. He congratulated the organising committee and all the participants, and encouraged students to make the most of the academic opportunities at the convention.
During his address, he appealed to the youth and the general public to take two important pledges for environmental protection: first, stop using polythene; and second, avoid sending wedding cards as thousands of trees have to be cut to make such cards. He said that plastic bags take around 400 years to decompose. If burnt, they harm oxygen in the air; if dumped in the ground, they stay for centuries and block sewage systems. Further citing Prime Minister, Sh.Narendra Modi’s campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” the Minister said that everyone should plant at least one tree for themselves and one for future generations.
He appreciated SGT University for its efforts in environmental conservation. He also congratulated SGT University and dental experts from all over the country for the convention of Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS).
