Chandigarh, August 15, 2025: Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Chandigarh campus, marked the 79th Independence Day with deep patriotic fervor and enthusiasm. The celebrations reflected the spirit of unity, sacrifice, and the collective responsibility of building a stronger nation.
The event commenced with the unfurling of the national flag, followed by the national anthem that echoed pride and unity across the campus. Dr. Jyotsna Singh, Director of NMIMS Chandigarh, delivered a powerful opening address. She reflected on the long and painful freedom struggle, remembering the countless sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. She paid homage to those who laid down their lives for India’s independence and acknowledged the continued dedication of our armed forces, who safeguard our freedom to this day.
Dr. Singh encouraged students to reflect on the true meaning of freedom — not just as a historic achievement but as a responsibility that each citizen must uphold. Her words emphasized the role of youth in preserving democratic values, fostering inclusiveness, and contributing actively to the development of the nation.
A major highlight of the event was the presence of Shri Lalit Jain, IAS Officer, as the chief guest. In his inspirational and thought-provoking address, Mr. Jain shared insights from his personal journey, recalling childhood memories that shaped his commitment to public service. He spoke about the richness of India’s democracy and diversity, underscoring how these values are central to India’s progress.
He highlighted the transformational role of infrastructure development in modern India and urged the youth to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth. “True happiness,” he remarked, “comes not only from personal success but also from community welfare and social responsibility.” His message strongly resonated with the NMIMS vision of nurturing socially responsible leaders.
Mr. Jain also spoke about:
· The strength of India’s Constitution, a document that stands as a beacon of justice and equality.
· The unmatched diversity of India, which fosters innovation, inclusiveness, and collaboration — traits rarely seen in other nations.
· The challenges faced post-independence, and how India has steadily grown through perseverance and unity.
· The importance of supporting civic authorities to improve local infrastructure and living conditions.
· The need to always respect the armed forces, whose selfless dedication ensures the nation’s sovereignty.
The event also featured vibrant cultural performances by students, including patriotic dances, songs, and speeches that reignited a sense of national pride among attendees. Their performances celebrated India’s unity in diversity and paid tribute to the valiant heroes of our past and present.
Following the formal celebrations, Shri Lalit Jain led a tree plantation drive on the campus as a symbolic gesture of the nation’s prosperous and sustainable growth. The saplings planted served as a reminder that nurturing the environment is as essential to the country’s future as safeguarding its democratic values.
The Independence Day celebration at NMIMS Chandigarh concluded with a renewed pledge by students and faculty to contribute towards nation-building with integrity, compassion, and determination.
NMIMS Chandigarh extends its heartfelt gratitude to Shri Lalit Jain for his presence and inspiring address, which has left a lasting impact on the campus community.
