Chandigarh January 8, 2026:
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Karun Dhir, Clerk posted at Water Supply and Sewerage Branch, Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 2000/-. An amount of Rs. 2.72 lakh has been recovered from the accused house during the search by VB team.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Ram Nagar, Jalandhar.
He said that complainant is running an Ahata near Doaba Chowk, Jalandhar, for the last fifteen months. Complainant alleged that accused Karan Dhir visited his Ahata and threatened to disconnect the water and sewerage connections on the pretext of alleged illegal connection and discharge of dirty water into sewage.
Despite the complainant explaining that the connections had been in existence for nearly 15 years, the accused official continued to threaten him and demanded illegal gratification, he added.
He further informed that the complainant approached the VB and alleged that the accused Karun Dhir had demanded a bribe of Rs 2000/-in lieu of not disconnecting the water and sewerage connections. The complainant had recorded the entire conversation of demanding bribe.
The spokesperson added that after a preliminary enquiry on his complaint, it has found that accused used to take small bribes from those who want to get their done. Acting on the complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused was arrested while accepting bribe money of Rs 2000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses. In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation into this case is under progress.
