NO COMPROMISE ON TIMELY PAYMENT OF WAGES TO WORKERS AND CORRUPTION ISSUE: LAL CHAND KATARUCHAK

 The Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is sparing no effort and stands committed to ensure welfare and lifting living standard of every section of society. As part of this, there would be no compromise on the vital issues of timely payment of wages to workers besides eradicating corruption. These views were expressed here today at Forest Complex, Sector 68, Mohali by the Forest and Wildlife Preservation Minister Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak during a meeting with the Janglat Workers Union. The Minister directed the departmental officers to prepare the seniority list strictly keeping in mind the transparency factor apart from assuring that adequate action would be undertaken as soon as possible with regard to the stalled salaries under various schemes. He directed that the salaries must be paid on time in future besides giving assurance of sympathetic consideration and positive action regarding the demand for arrears of minimum wages. As regards the issue of considering those having 5 years experience as skilled, 3 years as semi skilled and less than 3 years as unskilled, the Minister said that the proposal would soon be sent to the Labour Department. Similarly, the matter of exempting workers with over 50 years of age from typing test for promotion would be taken up with the concerned department. Exhorting the union members to step forward for saving the environment, Mr. Kataruchak emphasized proper upkeep of the saplings so as to make Punjab clean and green. It is as part of this that the Phagwara-Chandigarh road would be beautified. He further ordered the officers to promptly initiate the process for implementing the above mentioned decisions.  On the occasion, the union lauded the decision of the State Government to restore Old Pension Scheme. The PCCF Mr. R.K. Mishra and other officers of the department were also present. 

CHEEMA HANDS OVER APPOINTMENT LETTERS TO INVESTIGATORS IN ECONOMIC & STATISTICAL ORGANIZATION

Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday handed over appointment letters to two Investigators in the Economic and Statistical organization on compassionate grounds.          Handing over the appointment letters in his office here at Punjab Civil Secretariat, the Finance Minister exhorted the newly inducted employees to work diligently and honestly. Finance Minister also encouraged them to further improve their educational qualification through distance education. He said that it would not only help them in gaining promotions but the department would also benefit from their services with the increase in their competence.          On this occasion, the Finance Minister asked the heads of government departments to prioritise the appointments on the basis of compassionate grounds to ensure that families of deceased employees can get help in their hour of need.

GURU NANAK DEV UNIVERSITY WINS MAKA TROPHY FOR RECORD 24TH TIME

Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar has been selected for the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (Maka) Trophy in the National Sports Awards announced by the Union Sports Ministry for the year 2022.

          Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar has won the Maka Trophy, which is given to the best university in sports among the universities of the country, for a record 24th time. In sports awards, Commonwealth Games medalist weightlifter Vikas Thakur of Punjab has been selected for the Arjuna Award while archery coach Jeevanjot Singh Teja has been chosen for the Dronacharya Award and Hockey Olympian Dharamvir Singh for the Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award.

          Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer congratulated all the players and coaches of Guru Nanak Dev University under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu for this proud achievement. He said that it is a matter of pride for Punjab that this prestigious university of Punjab has won the Maka Trophy for the record 24th time. He also congratulated the players and coach of Punjab who won the national award.

Street Play Competition organized at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan under Swachh Bharat Mission in Chandigarh

In order to generate involvement of citizens from Chandigarh in Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organized second round of Street Play competition today under Swachh Survekshan 2023 at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38, Chandigarh. First round of the competition was conducted in the month of October, 2022. Swachh Sarvekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India. The competition was organized at school level as another major step towards making Swachhta, responsibility of students as well.

“Municipal Corporation Chandigarh have organized Movie making, Jingle, Poster making, Mural/ wall painting competitions in the previous days.  Generating students’ involvement in Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and related issues like Waste Segregation at source level, Safe Disposal of Sanitary Waste, Home Composting, 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), Say No to Plastic, Impact of Swachh Bharat Mission on Citizen’s Life and different categories of wastes are the core objectives of the competitions”, Ms. Anindita Mitra IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh said.

Live Jury Round was also held to review all the entries of Street Play competition. The competition was open for all the age groups and individuals submitted their entries through given Google form. Appreciation certificates were given to all the participants of Competition.The cash prizes declared under Street play competition for the best three entries are Rs. 11,000/- for first winner, Rs. 9,100/- for second winner and Rs. 7,100/- for the third winner.” said by Ms. Mitra. Prizes will be given to the winners of the competition by organizing a special event in the month of December, 2022.

Students enjoy Fresher’s party at Vidya Jyoti Eduversity, Derabassi

College days are all about fun and masti and the excitement of a fresher’s party is one which every student waits for. A magnificent Freshers’ party to welcome the batch of 2022-23 was organised at Vidya Jyoti Eduversity, Derabassi. Manpreet Kaur, Academic Head, Crossland, Chandigarh was the chief guest on the occasion. The event kicked off with a speech by Campus Director Amit Bhatti, who officially addressed the freshers on their arrival on the campus. He encouraged the students and said, “Your decision to join Vidya Jyoti Eduversity has been a good one, and this you will realise at the end of your tenure. So, enjoy the campus life to the fullest and put your best foot forward.”

Amazing performances by students Khushi, Vikram and others added to the fun and also gave a glimpse of college life to the freshers. The top six contestants for the title of Mr and Miss Freshers were seen putting their best foot forward to win the crown. After a couple of performances, it was time for the results of Mr & Miss Fresher. Director announced the results and crowned Karan, a student of BSc (IT) as Mr Fresher and Sonam, a student of Hotel Management as Miss Fresher. Academic Head, Crossland, Chandigarh, Manpreet Kaur congratulated all the title winners. She also blessed the students and encouraged them to participate in future events as well.

Being happy about his win, Karan said, “It was a proud moment for me to be titled as Mr Fresher. I’m grateful for this opportunity.” Sonam expressed her gratitude as well, and said, “It was an honour to be titled as Miss Fresher of Vidya Jyoti Eduversity.

SENIOR IAS OFFICER RAKHEE GUPTA BHANDARI JOINS AS PRINCIPAL SECRETARY TO PUNJAB GOVERNOR

          Senior and decorated IAS officer of 1997 batch Mrs. Rakhee Gupta Bhandari today joined as Principal Secretary to Punjab Governor Mr. Banwari Lal Purohit.

          Mrs. Rakhee Gupta Bhandari assumed the charge of her office here at Punjab Raj Bhawan this morning.

          A recipient of the prestigious “Stree Shakti Puruskar” award in 2011 under the Category of Rani Rudramma Devi Award for administrative skills, leadership quality and commendable work for the overall development of women by President of India on International Women’s Day, Mrs. Rakhee Gupta Bhandari has a wide administrative experience. Apart from serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, she has rendered service in key Ministries like Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga, Rejuvenation, Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Power and Ministry of Textiles, Director NIFT and others. She was also bestowed the President of India’s Silver Medal for Census Operation in 2001, and was also deputed by the Government of India to Bhutan for overseeing the first Parliamentary elections as a National Observer.

          Mrs. Rakhee Gupta Bhandari also had the privilege of representing India at the 29th & 30th Annual Human Rights Council in Geneva in 2015. She had also participated in International delegations as a member in Qatar, Pakistan, China, Syria and Dubai. A graduate from Lady Shri Ram College New Delhi, Postgraduate from Delhi School of Economics and an M. Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies from the National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi/University of Madras, Mrs. Rakhee Gupta Bhandari is an avid writer and singer, who has also published many articles and poems in leading newspapers and magazines.

500 screened in Diabetes Health Mela

As many as 500 patients were screened during a Diabetes Health Mela at Max Hospital, Bathinda on Monday. 
Shaukat Ahmed Parray DC inaugurated the mela which was organized in association with C-DOT Forum to mark World Diabetes Day. Dr. Tejwant Singh Dhillon civil surgeon was also present during the occasion. 
Dr. Sushil Kotru head endocrine diabetes and obesity care center said that during mela the tests including HbA1C, blood sugar, diabetes foot checkup, obesity checkup and TSH were offered free of cost.The free insulin cards were also distributed to 30 type 1 diabetic children.

CRACKDOWN ON CORRUPTION, VIGILANCE ARRESTS TWO POLICE OFFICIALS AND A PRIVATE PERSON FOR TAKING BRIBE RS 1,00,000

Aiming to eradicate corruption in the state on the directive issued by Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign on Monday arrested a police Sub-Inspector Bisman Singh, who was earlier posted as SHO, sadar police station Nakodar, Jalandhar, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Resham Singh posted at CIA Jalandhar and a private person Surjit Singh for taking a bribe of Rs 1, 00,000.          Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the VB said that all the above-mentioned accused have been arrested on the complaint of Harjinder Kumar resident of village Rampur Thoda, Rupnagar district. He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above-mentioned sub-inspector had arrested his brother from Hoshiarpur along with his truck in a false case by showing recovery of poppy husk in the vehicle when he was SHO at Nakodar.          The complainant further informed that the sub-inspector Bisman Singh through a private person Surjit Singh and ASI Resham Singh had already received Rs 11,00,000 in installments to release his brother and the truck loaded from Srinagar. He further alleged that the though the accused police sub-inspector has been transferred to police lines Jalandhar but he was demanding more money through his two other middlemen to help him in this police case.          After verification of the facts in the complaint and the material evidence, a VB team have arrested the above-mentioned sub-inspector Bisman Singh, ASI Rehsam Singh and private person Surjit Singh for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.          The spokesperson informed that in this regard a case under section 7, 7-A of Prevention of Corruption Act and 120-B of IPC has been registered against all the accused at VB police station, flying squad-1, SAS Nagar, Punjab and further investigation was under progress.
