CM bats for inclusion of Mohali in Smart city project

IEP New Delhi, June 15

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today impressed upon Union Housing and Development Minister Hardeep Puri to include SAS Nagar (Mohali) in the Smart city project for its inclusive development.

The Chief Minister, who called on Hardeep Puri here at his office today, underscored the need to develop Mohali as Smart City. He apprised the Union Minister that Mohali is part of tri city comprising Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula due to which this city holds immense significance. Bhagwant Mann also said that most of the departments of the state government have their head offices in this city due to which it is imperative to give further fillip to its growth.

The Chief Minister said that it is the need of hour to include this city in the Smart City Project for further holistic and planned growth. He said that Mohali and its adjoining municipal committees like Zirakpur, Kharar, Derabassi and Kurali have witnessed immense growth with the international airport/ presence of educational institutes/ townships and industries. Bhagwant Mann said that the area needs special funding to support planned growth and infrastructure development.

Flagging another issue, the Chief Minister requested the restoration of same ratio of funds under AMRUT 2.0 as was earlier in AMRUT 1. He said that under AMRUT 1.0. Centre and State share was 50:50 for towns in one lac to 10 lac population category whereas under AMRUT 2.0, the Centre and State Share has been revised to 33:67 for the towns under the same population category adding that for million-plus cities like Ludhiana and Amritsar, the ratio was 33:67(Centre and State share) and under AMRUT 2.0, it is 75:25. Bhagwant Mann said that as these towns are rapidly expanding so they need continuous infrastructure development for which old share ratio must be restored.

SOCIAL JUSTICE DEPARTMENT SHOULD RESOLVE 93 COMPLAINTS REGARDING FAKE SC CERTIFICATES WITHIN 15 DAYS: HARPAL SINGH CHEEMA

       Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday asked the Department of Social Justice to redress the 93 complaints received against persons acquiring government employment on the basis of fake SC certificates, within 15 days.          Chairing a meeting along with Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minority Dr. Baljeet Kaur with the representatives of ‘Reservation Chor Fado Morcha’ here at Punjab Bhawan, the Finance Minister also asked the Social Justice Department to take action within a month on the list of other such cases provided by the leaders of the Morcha. He said that the department should coordinate with the Advocate General’s office to ensure concrete action regarding such cases that are under trial in various courts.          Emphasizing on creating a complete check on the practice of obtaining reservation in government jobs through fake certificates, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema asked the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities to write to all government departments to ensure that the documents related to reservation claim should be thoroughly scrutinized during the probation period of the concerned person. He also asked the department to prepare a proposal regarding the necessary reforms need in the process of making caste-based certificates so that this problem can be eradicated from the roots.          During the meeting, the representatives of the ‘Reservation Chor Fado Morcha’ discussed in detail about the cases of getting government employment on the basis of fake SC certificates. On this, Additional Chief Secretary Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Department Ramesh Kumar Ganta said that the department has so far received a total of 93 complaints out of which 26 cases have been heard and forwarded further to the Scrutiny Committee. Director Social Justice Jaspreet Singh apprised the ministers that the remaining 77 cases will also be heard soon. He assured that all these matters will be resolved within a month.

VIGILANCE BUREAU NABS ASI FOR TAKING BRIBE OF RS 10K

:The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Tuesday nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI/LR) Bhupinder Singh posted at Police Station, Chatiwind (Amritsar) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said the accused police official has been arrested on the complainant of Sarwan Singh, resident of village Gurwali in district Amritsar.Giving details, he added that the complainant has approached the Police Station VB Range Amritsar and lodged complaint that ASI Bhupinder Singh has demanded Rs 10,000 as a bribe to help him in getting regular bail from High Court in the case registered against him and others under sections of 323, 379-A, 427, 452, 506, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station Chatiwind on 13-02-2023. The ASI Bhupinder Singh was investigating the case.The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, a team of VB Police Station, Amritsar Range laid a trap and arrested the accused police official red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.In this regard, a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused ASI at VB police station, Amritsar Range. Further investigation in this case was under progress.

ANMOL GAGAN MAAN INVITES YOUNGSTERS TO COME FORWARD WITH INNOVATIVE BUSINESS IDEAS

Asserting to establish industry is important for a country’s progress as it augments economic and employment growth, Punjab Investment Promotion Minister Anmol Gagan Maan on Tuesday invited young entrepreneurs from Punjab to come forward with their unique business ideas.

During a function organised by Innovation Mission Punjab during its flagship Accelerator Program’s Demo day, the Minister said the State has started Innovation Mission Punjab as a public-private partnership to boost the startup ecosystem in Punjab, leading to the state’s overall economic growth and social development. It, in turn, will open avenues for employment, which has a direct impact on the levels of migration.” Speaking about the program, she informed that the IMPunjab works towards discovering, mentoring, and scaling startups by eventually making them investment ready.

Commenting on the event, Mr. Pramod Bhasin, Chairman, IMPunjab said that the Mission envisions creating a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Punjab. Punjab has great entrepreneurial talent and has unique strengths in tourism, food, music, art, agriculture, healthcare etc.  Through IMPunjab we’ve brought together the best global investors and business leaders to mentor the entrepreneurial talent in the State. We have been able to support the early-stage startups through the Accelerator and Pollinator programs by enabling them to utilize their best potential, to drive growth and leverage the ecosystem in the state.

Innovation Mission Punjab concluded its second Accelerator Program with its Spring Cohort 2023 consisting of 50% women founders and about a third of them migrating to Punjab spread across various sectors such as Health & Wellness, Consumer Technology, Deep Tech, & FinTech. The second cohort comes on the back of the success of the first program, launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, where approximately 50% of the Cohort raised ~5Cr cumulatively.

The Minister congratulated the Mission on its focus to encourage entrepreneurs. She also interacted with the startups, encouraging them to continue building their companies with grit and determination.  

On this occasion, an insightful brainstorming session was held between Kanwalijit Singh from Fireside Ventures and Chairman of IMPunjab Pramod Bhasin on building successful D2C brands in India. Mr. Kanwaljit Singh congratulated the Mission on its excellent work in providing mentorship, a cornerstone to building successful startups.       

The Mission’s Board and Advisors include Saurabh Srivastava, widely acknowledged as an architect of the Indian IT Industry, noted economist and author Ajay Shah, D.S. Punjab CM hands over new colour coded stamp papers to industrialists

  In a major breakthrough aimed at facilitating the industrial growth in the state, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today handed over unique green colour coded stamp paper to two industrialists of the state. Handing over the stamp papers, the Chief Minister said that this a red letter day for the industrialists of the state. He said that this unique colour coded stamp papers is a step forward towards ushering a new era of Industrial Revolution in the state adding that the notification for this scheme was issued on May 12 this year. Bhagwant Mann said that Punjab is the first state to introduce green colored stamp papers to facilitate the entrepreneurs for setting up their units thereby giving much needed fillip to industrial growth of the state. The Chief Minister described it as a revolutionary step aimed at promoting ease of doing business for the entrepreneurs desirous of setting up their units in the state. He said that any industrialist who is keen on setting his industrial unit in the state can get this unique colour coded stamp paper from Invest Punjab Portal. Bhagwant Mann said that industrialists will have to just pay various fees required for getting clearances in form of CLU, forest, Pollution, Fire and other to set up his unit while purchasing this single stamp paper only. The Chief Minister said that after purchasing the stamp paper, these two industrialists have got all the necessary clearances from all the departments within 17 days to set up their units. He said that this first of its kind initiative by the state government will give a major fillip to the industry in Punjab. Bhagwant Mann envisioned that this will facilitate the industrialists in a big way by saving their time, money and energy. The Chief Minister further said that green color stamp paper will symbolize that the industrialist has already paid the entire fee for the clearances required for industry. He announced that the same color coding will also be implemented in other sectors like housing and others to ensure optimum utilization of the land resources on one hand and facilitating the people on the other. Bhagwant Mann envisioned that this out of the box idea will emerge Punjab as a front runner state across the country in the industrial sector. The Chief Minister expressed hope that this noble initiative will attract more investment in the state thereby generating new employment opportunities for the youth of the state. He reiterated the firm commitment of the state government to ensure the well being of every section of the society adding that every decision of his government is aimed towards this. Bhagwant Mann said that the day is not far when other states will also replicate this industrial friendly initiative of the Punjab government.

Colleges of Haryana’s three districts – Panchkula, Ambala and Yamunanagar should be given option of affiliation with Panjab University: Punjab Governor

An important meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit with Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal and Punjab Chief Minister, Sh. Bhagwant Mann, on various issues related to Panjab University, Chandigarh. A detailed discussion was held on the issue of affiliation of Haryana colleges with Panjab University, Chandigarh. The next round of meeting regarding the matter will be held on July 3.

Sh. Banwarilal Purohit said that India’s culture has been to disseminate education and people from all over the world used to come to get education in Takshashila and Nalanda University. “That is why giving opportunities for education to children is a positive thinking. In this regard, the colleges of Haryana should be given affiliation from Panjab University,” he added. He said that colleges in Haryana’s three districts – Panchkula, Ambala and Yamunanagar, should be given the option of affiliation with Panjab University.

Along with districts of Haryana, colleges of Punjab’s Mohali and Rupnagar  should also be given affiliation: Manohar Lal

In the meeting, Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal said that in the interest of the students, the colleges of the state should be given the option of affiliation with Panjab University. Both the states will proceed in a friendly manner, he added.

He said that along with the colleges in three districts – Panchkula, Ambala and Yamunanagar, colleges in Punjab’s Mohali and Rupnagar  districts should also be given affiliation with Panjab University.

“Delhi University is building its campus in Haryana. Apart from this, the campus of IIT, Delhi is also coming up in the state. Expanding education and affiliation of the colleges will provide many new opportunities to students of Haryana,” said Sh. Manohar Lal.

Punjab adamant against Haryana’s proposal for college affiliation

In the meeting, Punjab Chief Minister, Sh. Bhagwant Mann remained adamant against the proposal of Haryana for affiliation of colleges. He said that Punjab is helpless on the issue of affiliation of Haryana colleges with Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Varsity gets only 7 to 14 percent of budget against Punjab’ share of 40 percent

Giving information related to the budget in Panjab University, Chandigarh, it was apprised that the varsity has been facing financial crisis for years. Chandigarh has 60 percent share in the university and Punjab has 40 percent share. In the last 10 years, the university has received an average of Rs 200-300 crore per year from the Centre.

While in the last 10 years only Rs 20-21 crores have been received from Punjab on an average per year. In the year 2020-21, an amount of Rs 39 crore was released by Punjab. Overall, the university gets only 7 to 14 percent of the budget as against Punjab’s share of 40 percent.

Punjab Education Minister, Sh. Harjot Singh Bains, Haryana Chief Secretary, Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal, Advisor to UT Administrator, Sh. Dharam Pal, Punjab Chief Secretary, Sh. Rajeev Rattan, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Prof Renu Vig along with senior officials of Punjab and Chandigarh were also present in the meeting.

Job interview session specifically for persons with disabilities- Divyangjan in Haryana

Amazon has announced an upcoming job interview session specifically for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) in Haryana. The interview will take place on June 6 at IMT Manesar, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

        Haryana Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (Divyangs), Sh. Rajkumar Makkar, shared the necessary details for interested candidates. Those interested in participating in the interview should bring their Aadhaar card, disability certificate, bio-data, and educational certificates. The interview will be conducted at Amarpali Building, Sixth Floor, Office no. 638, Sector-2, I.M.T. Manesar, which is located opposite HUDA Company Main Road.

        Sh. Rajkumar Makkar further specified that individuals with hearing or speech impairments, as well as those with disabilities in their legs and hands, are encouraged to attend. Candidates should have a disability percentage of less than 70% and should be able to work while standing. Additionally, they should have completed their matriculation or passed the 8th or 9th grade, along with some prior work experience. The age range for participation in the interview session is between 18 and 35 years.

        However, visually impaired candidates are advised not to come for the interview as separate arrangements will be made for them at a later time.

Cabinet Minister Anmol Gagan Mann reviews the development works of different wards of Kharar city

          Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Labour, Investment Promotion and Hospitality Minister Anmol Gagan Mann on Monday reviewed the development works of various wards of Kharar city.  On this occasion, the residents of Kharar informed the minister about their various problems.  Taking the problems of the people seriously, the minister solved most of the problems on the spot.  Apart from this, the officials of various departments were asked to take quick action by issuing necessary guidelines to solve the remaining problems.

          Giving more information in this regard, the minister said that efforts are being made by the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to develop the Kharar constituency. Referring to the development works of Kharar city, the minister said that adequate arrangements have been made for the drainage of rainwater in Kharar city, so that water will not enter people’s houses during the rainy season.

          Speaking about the scarcity of drinking water in Kharar city, the minister said that the project of providing canal water to Kharar city is progressing rapidly and will be completed very soon. She also mentioned that water supply to Zone A of Kharar will start soon. Furthermore, the work of setting up 5 sewerage treatment plants in Kharar city is about to begin. In addition, 6 tube wells in Kharar city, which have been running on generators for the past three years, have now been connected to the electricity. Moreover, tenders have been published for the installation of 6 new tube wells and the process is expected to be completed soon.

          She informed that more than 20,000 saplings will soon be planted by the forest department to make Kharar city greener. Minister assured that the development project will not face any shortage of funds.

          The minister appealed to the people to actively participate in the development of Kharar. She emphasized the importance of people monitoring the government’s development works to ensure that they are carried out according to the prescribed standards. She also stated that any form of corruption in development works will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against any such cases that come to light.

          On this occasion, SDM Kharar Ravinder Singh, Executive officer of Kharar Gurdeep Singh, Chairman of the Market Committee Hakam Singh, Labour Coordinator Raghbir Singh, Avtar Singh, Daljit Singh Jhungian and other dignitaries were present.
