Another feather has been added to the cap of Haryana Police today. Taking a significant step towards road safety and crime control, DGP Shatrujeet Kapur today inaugurated 128 CCTV cameras installed on National Highway-44 (from Ambala border to Kundli border of Sonipat) from the CCTV control room in Karnal. Now, all vehicles passing through this highway will be under the strict watch of Haryana Police and challans will be issued automatically to the vehicle drivers violating traffic rules. This CCTV control room has been set up at the office of the Additional Director General of Police, Traffic and Highways.

Providing information in this regard, Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur said that this historic initiative has been started by Haryana Police with the aim of reducing road accidents and ensuring compliance with traffic rules. Haryana Police has installed 128 CCTV cameras at 19 locations on this highway. Out of these, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed at 9 places and surveillance cameras at 10 places. He informed that ANPR cameras have been linked to Haryana Police’s Intelligent Traffic Management System so that the complete history of the vehicles can be obtained.

Mr. Kapur said that 72 ANPR, 38 surveillance and 18 evidence cameras have been installed on NH-44. These cameras are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. With the start of these cameras, the feeling of security among the vehicle drivers passing through here will also get a boost, as alerts about vehicles involved in criminal activities, stolen vehicles, etc. will automatically reach the control room through the cameras, which will be sent to the police stations as per the requirement. Mr. Kapur informed that such cameras have been installed in 10 districts of Haryana so far, including Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Ambala, Panipat, Rohtak, Panchkula, Gurugram, Faridabad and Sonipat. Apart from this, challans are also issued through drones in Gurugram district to ensure compliance with traffic rules.

It is noteworthy that there has been a decrease of 657 in road accidents in 2024 as compared to 2023. Along with this, 279 fewer people died and 432 fewer people were injured in road accidents in 2024 compared to 2023. A decrease has also been seen in the cases of fatal road accidents, which have decreased from 4652 in 2023 to 4389 this year, which is 5.65% less than the previous year. In 2024, Haryana Police conducted 2366 road safety awareness campaigns through which 3 lakh 16 thousand 414 children and other people were made aware. Similarly, Haryana Police conducts campaigns from time to time to ensure compliance with lane driving, under which challans have been issued to 3,86,266 vehicle drivers violating lane driving rules.

Cashless treatment facility up to Rs. 1.5 lakh for injured persons in road accidents

Providing information on road safety, Mr. Kapur said that in compliance with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Haryana Police has started a new initiative under which the injured person in a road accident is now being provided free treatment in the initial golden hour. Under this scheme, treatment up to Rs. 1.5 lakh per person per road accident is provided free of cost for a maximum period of 7 days from the date of the accident. He informed that this pilot project has been implemented jointly by the National Health Authority in coordination with local police and state health department contracted hospitals such as Primary Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs), civil hospitals and many other private hospitals. He informed that under this scheme, the injured person in a road accident is taken to the hospital. After this, the hospital management uploads the data of the injured person in their software and sends it to the concerned police station, after which the concerned police station confirms within 6 hours whether the injured person is injured in a road accident or not. After confirmation, the injured person is provided with cashless treatment.

DGP’s Appeal:
Mr. Kapur appealed to the general public saying that road safety is an important issue. The common people should cooperate in making the roads safe and should drive the vehicles only within the prescribed speed limit. Haryana Police is organizing various types of competitions and activities to make the common people aware of traffic rules, people should ensure their participation in it. He said that people should also not use mobile phones etc. while driving. Even a slight negligence of a person can prove fatal not only for them but also for other people.
