IEP Chandigarh, February 9
The e-tendering system started by the Haryana government with the aim of expediting development works in villages and ensuring transparency will continue. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has refused to stay on the plea filed by some Gram Panchayats against the e-tendering system. The High Court accepted that the system started by the state government is a significant and positive step to bring transparency.
Giving information in this regard, an official spokesperson said that under the leadership of Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal, special emphasis is being laid on the development of villages. The Chief Minister has decentralized the powers of the Panchayati Raj Institutions by giving them more autonomy.
“Now Panchayati Raj Institutions can get small or big works done from their funds and grant-in-aid, whatever the amount may be. The development works of more than Rs 2 lakh will be done through e-tender, which will not only expedite the works but also ensure transparency. With this, the villagers will also get information about the development works,” he said.
Panchayati Raj institutions received budget of Rs 1100 crore for development works
The spokesperson said that in the last quarter of this financial year, a budget of Rs 1,100 crore has been released by the Chief Minister to the Panchayati Raj Institutions for development works in the villages. Out of this, 850 crore has been given only to the panchayats. Development works have also been started by the new panchayats after passing resolutions, he added.
