IEP New Delhi, June 14
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday impressed upon the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highway Nitin Gadkari to intervene for completing the work on Jalandhar Hoshiarpur road especially the Adampur flyover.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by Lok Sabha MP from Jalandhar Sushil Kumar Rinku, called on Nitin Gadkari here at his residence.
The Chief Minister apprised Gadkari about the project that had been hanging in fire since long. He said that this has resulted in lot of inconvenience to the people due to which it must be completed at the earliest. Acceding to the demand the Union Minister assured Bhagwant Mann that the project will be completed very soon and he will be personally monitoring the pace of work.
The Chief Minister and Gadkari also reviewed the construction of Delhi Katra expressway. Both the leaders agreed on expediting the work on this project which will be a big boost for the economy of the state. They also said that this highway will facilitate the pilgrims going to pay obeisance at Mata Vaishno Devi shrine apart from giving boost to economic activity in the region.
The Chief Minister also apprised Gadkari that the state government is soon going to form Road Security Force in the state to check causalities due to road accidents. He said that this dedicated force will help in checking road accidents thereby saving precious lives in the state. Union Minister welcomed the idea of Bhagwant Mann and said this unique of the box idea will help in checking deaths due to road accidents.
The Chief Minister also flagged the issue of high handedness by the National Highway Toll Plazas and said that they must be controlled in larger public interest. He urged the Union Minister that public interest must be given paramount importance and the toll plazas must not be given a free hand to charge any amount from public. Bhagwant Mann said that it is the need of hour to ensure that the open loot of public money is checked.
