Chandigarh, June 24: In a landmark decision aimed at strengthening civic infrastructure and enhancing public amenities across the city, the Finance & Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, under the chairmanship of Mayor Saurabh Joshi, approved a record 82 development agenda items having approximate Rs. 20.00 Cr. marking one of the highest numbers of works ever cleared in a single meeting of the civic body.
The meeting, attended by MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS and committee members namely Sh. Harjeet Singh, Sh. Jasbeer Singh Bunty, Sh. Kanwarjeet Singh, Sh. Rajinder Kumar Sharma, Sh. Yogesh Dhingra and other senior officers of MCC, focused on accelerating infrastructure development and enhancing civic amenities across the city.
The approvals cover a wide spectrum of civic works including strengthening of storm water drainage systems, improvement of roads and footpaths, enhancement of parks and green belts, water supply augmentation, installation of street lighting, public toilet upgrades, construction of sanitation infrastructure and beautification of public spaces across Chandigarh.
During the Finance & Contract Committee (F&CC) meeting, it was decided to constitute two separate committee to examine and recommend all special agenda items before their consideration by the competent authority comprises the following officers: Executive Engineer, Road Division No. 2, MCC – Chairman; Amit Sharma, Executive Engineer, PH-I, MCC– Member; Ankur Bansal, Executive Engineer, Road Division No. 1, MCC – Member; Ashni Kumar, Executive Engineer, Horticulture Division No. I, MCC – Member; Rajdeep Surya, SDE (Electrical), MCC – Member and Vishal Sharma, SDE (Road), MCC– Member Secretary.
The committee will ensure that proposed works conform to the policy guidelines of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and do not violate any rules or regulations. The committee has been directed to submit its recommendations on pending special items within one week.
Similarly, a committee to recommend market rates, specifications and policy guidelines for installation of decorative poles and lights in market areas across Chandigarh comprises the following officers: Executive Engineer, (Road Division No. 3), MCC – Chairman; Executive Engineer, (Electrical), MCC – Member; SDE (Electrical), MCC – Member and J.E., (Electrical), MCC – Member Convener
The committee will examine design standards, material quality, suitable lighting options, and undertake a cost-benefit analysis to ensure uniform, aesthetically pleasing and durable infrastructure. The recommendations of the above said committee duly approved by S.E. H&E shall be directed to place before the General House meeting scheduled on 29th June, 2026.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Saurabh Joshi said that the unprecedented number of approvals reflects the Municipal Corporation’s commitment towards ensuring balanced development in every sector, village and colony of the city. He stated that the approved projects will significantly improve civic amenities, strengthen urban infrastructure and enhance the quality of life of residents.
The committee accorded approval for the following agenda items:-
· The work of Strengthening of existing SWD system at various locations in village Burail at an estimated cost of Rs. 19.74 lakh.
· Providing and fixing interlocking paver block on internal streets for restoration of road cut in village Buterla, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 14.98 lakh.
· Addition of Security measures in SPCA Building at Sector 38 (W), Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.56 lakh.
· Special repair of existing sealing wall of Sector 39& 40, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 12.12 lakh.
· The work of raising and re-construction of paver footpath around the various parks in Sector 38-D, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 49.80 lakh.
