Haryana Chief Minister hails Supreme Court’s decision on EWS reservation

Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal today welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on EWS reservation. The Supreme Court has put its stamp on the law made by the central and state governments. This decision of the court will definitely benefit the people belonging to the economically weaker sections, said the chief minister while addressing media persons after hearing the grievances of the general public at the rest house during his visit to Karnal. 

        The Chief Minister heard the grievances of more than 100 people. Most of the issues were resolved on the spot and necessary directions were given to the higher officers to resolve the issues immediately. During the public hearing, the Chief Minister was apprised of a problem of Kunjpura Sainik School by the school Principal, on which the Chief Minister, taking immediate cognizance, spoke to the Chief Secretary of Haryana over telephone and directed to find a concrete solution to the problem. Similarly, Councilor Joginder Sharma, supporting the demand of Ekta Mahaparv Seva Samiti Shiv Colony, Karnal, requested the Chief Minister to construct one more ghat for bathing and worship in the Western Yamuna Canal on the occasion of Chhath festival. On which Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Anish Yadav apprised the Chief Minister that joint visits of officers of the Public Works Department and Irrigation Department and members of the committee have been conducted for physical verification, action will be taken keeping in view the report.

        During the public hearing, the members of the Pensioners Association put forth their issues related to pension, on which the Chief Minister assured the members to solve their problems and also said that the government is working in the interest of the pensioners and soon enhancement in the health facilities will be ensured.

        Responding to another question, the Chief Minister stated that after completing their medical education, students should work for the government. The government has established a bond policy so that the best health facilities can be provided to the people of the state.

Government will make policy for proper management of stubble, good results will be available in future

The Chief Minister said that the government will execute a policy to ensure that proper management of stubble is maximised; once the policy is created, excellent reforms will be visible in this area. In addition to providing incentives to farmers for managing their stubble, the government is currently providing modern agricultural machines on a grant basis. As a result, this year in Haryana, fewer incidences of stubble burning have occurred than in comparison with previous years.

The Syndicate in its meeting held today, deliberated on all the agenda items and few of them are as follows. 

            The Syndicate has accepted all the recommendations made by the Board of Finance in its meeting held on dated 14.10.2022.

            The Syndicate approved Hon’ble Vice Chancellor to nominate two University Associate Professors on the Academic Council for the remaining term upto 31.1.2024 and two University Assistant Professors (one from the Science Faculty and one from other Faculties) by rotation, on the Academic Counil for the remaining term upton 31.1.2024.

            The Syndicate deferred the grant of temporary extension of affiliation to Institute of Management, C/o DAV College, Sector-10, Chandigarh, for MBA (Two Year Course) Ist and 2nd year (60 seats each) for the session 2021-2022.

            The Syndicate accepted the minutes dated 22.08.2022 of the Committee, with regard to Faculty Strength Audit in the matter regarding break up of 1378 teaching positions.

            The Syndicate in the recommendation of the Regulation Committee dated 31.10.2022, has approved to follow the UGC guidelines in toto in context to Ph.D.

            The Syndicate has accepted minutes of the Committee held on dated 08.08.2022 to examine the placement of those faculty members in the Master Seniority list, who joined in the year 2005 i.e upto 31.12.2005   

            The Syndicate accepted the proposed honorarium on account of holding the additional charge of the posts of Registrar and Controller of Examinations, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

            The Syndicate accepted the minutes dated 17.10.2022 of the Committee, to frame templates and application forms for direct recruitment for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor.

            The Syndicate deferred to the next meeting to the adoption of Gazette notification dated 30.03.2022 of the Chandigarh, Ministry of Home Affairs notification dated 29.03.2022 and notification No.28/17/94-IH(7)-2022/5169 dated 30.03.2022 of Department of Personnel, Chandigarh.

Kalgidhar Transport Cooperative Society Limited’s registration cancelled, informs Laljit Singh Bhullar

The Punjab Government has cancelled the registration of The Kalgidhar Transport Co-operative Society Limited, Talwandi Sabo.

Informing this, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that the registration of ‘Kalgidhar Transport Co-operative Society Limited’ has been cancelled under Section-61 of the Punjab Cooperative Societies Act-1961. He added that a public notice was issued in the newspaper under Section 59 of the Punjab Cooperative Society Act-1961 and Section-58 of the Punjab Cooperative Society Act-1963 on October 7, 2022 for filing a claim regarding the society, but during the given period, no claim received from any member/legal heirs of member/former-members/any institution/office/bank or individual. Therefore, the registration of The Kalgidhar Transport Co-operative Society Limited’ Talwandi Sabo has been cancelled.

Chief Secretary meets Transport and Mining Department for providing sand to people at reasonable prices

Following the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to improve the management of sand transportation to provide sand to the people of the state at reasonable prices, Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua held a meeting with the Department of Transport and Mining and directed strict monitoring of vehicles carrying sand.

During a meeting at the Punjab Civil Secretariat here today, the Chief Secretary said that the sand carrying vehicles (tippers/trucks/trailers etc.) should be checked by ensuring strict compliance with the instructions of the Chief Minister and if any vehicle violates the rules, strict action should be taken against the guilty. He said that the price of sand has been fixed at Rs. 9 per cubic foot, but due to the high price charged by the sand transporters, the people get sand at exorbitant rates which will not be tolerated.

The Chief Secretary authorized the XEN level officials of the Mining Department for checking the vehicles. He also warned the transporters involved in this work. He further divulged that the transport department has also been asked to find a legal way to transport sand by tractor-trolley as the use of tractor-trolley for agriculture is for a limited time twice a year during crop sowing and harvesting. With this, while the farmers will get financial help, the people will also get sand at a reasonable price.

The Principal Secretary Mining Krishan Kumar and Principal Secretary Transport Vikas Garg were also present at the meeting.

2nd workshop on PET/CT guided interventions organized by Deptt. of Nuclear Medicine concluded successfully

The 2nd workshop on PET/CT guided interventions was organized by the Department of Nuclear Medicine, PGIMER Chandigarh on the 5th and 6th of November, 2022. Spread over two days, the workshop provided a comprehensive look at PET-guided interventions to over 50 delegates from all over the country who were in attendance.

 Two International faculty, one from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre (MSKCC) and one from Brigham & Women Hospital, Harvard University also attended virtually and shared their experiences. Various interdisciplinary lectures by clinicians, pathologists, and nuclear medicine physicians alike were held on Day 1 concerning PET guided interventions.

 First workshop on PET/CT guided interventions was organized in March 2020, with the aim of disseminating this knowledge to various centers throughout the country and help them in providing unmatched clinical benefit to their patients.  The current second workshop being held in a post covid era represents an undying effort in this very endeavor.

 Prof. Dr. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER was the Chief Guest who inaugurated the workshop on the first day and addressed the audience highlighting the importance of nuclear medicine in today’s medical management of patients, especially the cancer patients. PGIMER provides state of the art care for patients throughout the country. Prof. B.R. Mittal, Organizing Chairperson and Head, Department of Nuclear Medicine welcomed the delegates and informed the audience about the role and benefits of PET guided interventions.  PET guided interventions constitute various novel, state-of-the-art techniques utilizing the strength of molecular imaging in patient care. He boasted that the department of Nuclear Medicine, PGIMER is one of the leading high-volume centers in PET-guided intervention in the world, benefitting over 1000 patients each year in establishing a definitive diagnosis and providing improved patient care. Dr. Kanhaiyalal Agrawal from AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, Secretary, Indian College of Nuclear Medicine also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Rajender Kumar, Organising Secretary proposed vote of thanks.

 Dr. Rajender Kumar and Dr. Harmandeep Singh, the Organising Secretaries, along with Dr. Venkata Krishnaraju and other experienced PET/CT-guided interventionists and other supporting staff members of the department demonstrated the procedures and provided hands-on training to the selected participants. 

In addition, various in-house novel therapeutic techniques pioneered at PGIMER such as PET/CT-guided pain palliation and PET/CT-guided antibiotic injections were introduced to the delegates. The delegates were very happy for the academic feast and expressed their desire to have many more theme-based workshops/CMEs by the nuclear medicine department of PGIMER, the best and leading department of the country.

PGI Professor delivers Prestigious Oration and Resident Doctors win Accolades at National Hematology Conference in Kolkata

The Indian national body on blood disorders, the Indian Society of Haematology & Blood Transfusion held its 63rd Annual Conference at Kolkata from November 3-6, 2022. Professor Reena Das, Head of the Hematology Department at PGIMER, Chandigarh was conferred the prestigious Malti Sathe Oration Award at this meeting. Dr. Das has been working in the field of molecular hematology since she joined PGI as faculty in 1996. She delivered her oration on the topic “Providing molecular diagnostic services for non-malignant hematological diseases: Trials, tribulations, and satisfactions” on November 5, 2022. Professor Das is a researcher of national and international repute in thalassemia and other red blood cell disorders as well as disorders of bleeding and clotting.Several resident doctors and students won prizes in the meeting. Dr. Charanpreet Singh, Pool Officer in Department of Clinical Haematology and Medical Oncology won the first and second prizes in oral and poster sessions for his work on the deadly but curable blood cancer “acute promyelocytic leukemia”. Dr. Harpreet Virk, Senior Resident in Hematology Department, won the second prize for her poster on flow cytometric diagnostic tests for platelet diseases, while Ms. Namrata Singh, PhD student in Hematology Department, won the second prize for her research on genetics of thalassemia. Ms. Ritika Sharma from the Hematology Department and Ms. Rozy Thakur from the Pediatrics Department were finalists in the Dr. J.C. Patel Award Paper session.In the National Hematology Quiz held on 6th November at the same meeting, the PGI team of Aishwarya Karthikeyan (Pathology), Prasanna Ethiraj S. (Medicine) and Prasanna (Pediatrics) came a very close second to AIIMS, New Delhi in a very keenly contested contest at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata. The six final quiz teams who contested were chosen after one year of college, state and zonal level rounds among post-graduate (MD) students in institutions across India.

Punjab Government extends date for purchase of stubble management machines on subsidy : Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal

Punjab Government has taken many new initiatives to help the farmers under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for the paddy straw management in the state. Under this series, the Punjab government has decided to extend the period of sanctions issued to farmers for purchase  of stubble management and direct sowing wheat machinery on subsidy till November 20. In a statement issued here today, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal informed that the approval period of the machines which are expiring on November 7, 2022, has been extended till November 20, 2022.Along with this, the Minister of Agriculture disclosed that the new sanctions to purchase  baler Rakes machines would be for 21 days. He said that these decisions were being taken by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led government for the purpose of providing maximum help to the farmers for paddy straw management and direct sowing of wheat.The Agriculture Minister has also appealed to the farmers to save the environment from pollution by maximum utilisation of these schemes of the government.

Improving adolescent wellbeing urgent global priority: PMNCH

 British medical journal together with Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) has launched the first tranche of a special collection of articles arguing the global agenda for sustainable development cannot be achieved without increased focus on demographic groups left behind and specifically adolescents. The collection was launched recently at a curtain-raiser for PMNCH’s global campaign to advocate for the world’s 1.8 billion adolescents and youth, which will further drive action towards the Global Forum for Adolescents in 2023.

VIGILANCE ARRESTS REVENUE PATWARI, HIS ASSISTANT FOR TAKING BRIBE RS 7,000

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption, on Friday arrested a revenue Patwari Jagdev Singh posted at revenue halqa Behniwal, Mansa district and his assistant Amarjit Singh for accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000.

          Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said the accused Patwari and his assistant were arrested on the complaint lodged by complainant Roop Singh, resident of village Behniwal, Mansa district. He approached the VB and alleged that the above said Patwari and his assistant were demanding a bribe of Rs 7,000 for making correction in the revenue record pertaining to his agricultural land.

          He informed that after verification of the facts and the material evidence, a VB team from Bathinda unit laid a trap and the both the accused have been arrested in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both the accused at VB police station, Bathinda and further investigation is under progress.
