PUNJAB POLICE LAUNCH CRACKDOWN AGAINST ELEMENTS OF WARIS PUNJAB DE; 78 ARRESTED

   Punjab Police on Saturday launched a massive state-wide Cordon And Search Operations (CASO) in the state against elements of Waris Punjab De (WPD) against whom several criminal cases stand registered.          During the operation, a total of 78 persons have been arrested so far, while, several others have been detained for questioning.          Divulging more details, official spokesperson of Punjab Police said that on Saturday afternoon, several activities of WPD were intercepted by the Police at the Shahkot-Malsian Road in Jalandhar district and seven persons were arrested on the spot. Several others including Amritpal Singh are on the run and a massive manhunt has been launched to nab them, he added.           During the state-wide operation, nine weapons, including one .315 bore rifle, seven rifles of 12 bore, one revolver and 373 live cartridges of different caliber have been recovered so far.          The Spokesperson informed that WPD elements are involved in four criminal cases relating to spreading disharmony among classes, attempt to murder, attack on police persons and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duties of public servants. Case FIR No. 39 dated 24-02-2023 stands registered against WPD elements for the attack on Ajnala Police Station, he added.          He said that all persons involved in criminal offences shall be dealt in accordance with law and all persons wanted by the police should offer themselves to the process of law. Their constitutional rights of legal defence shall be protected, he added.          Meanwhile, all the citizens are requested not to pay heed to fake news and rumours. Situation in the state is completely stable. All persons indulging in mischievous activities for disturbing peace and harmony in the state shall be dealt with strictly.

Final Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Chandigarh Tri-City Complex has been discussed

 The final Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Chandigarh Tri-City Complex has been discussed in the meeting held today under the Chairmanship of Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Hon’ble Administrator, Chandigarh. The meeting was attended by Sh. Manohar Lal Khattar, Hon’ble Chief Minister Haryana, Smt. Anmol Gagan Mann, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism and Culture Affairs, Punjab, Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh, Chief Secretary Haryana, senior officers from Punjab, Haryana, Civil Aviation, Air force Authorities, Railway Authorities and all other stakeholders.RITES made the presentation covering all aspects of CMP i.e. the vision and objectives of the study, existing traffic scenario, problems and issues, Short, Medium and Long Term Plans and proposals, Citywide Integrated Multi-Modal Transport Plan, Institutional Strengthening, Broad Cost Estimate, and the way forward. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana suggested that this is a need connect Panchkula via Madhya Marg by MRTS to serve the areas of PGI, Punjab and Haryana Secretariat and Panjab University.Sh. Manohar Lal Khattar also suggested to connect Haryana Secretariat, Assembly, High Court, PGI and Panjab University in the first phase of Metro.  He also stressed that measures also need to be taken to improving connectivity to Pinjore – Kalka and of Zirakpur to Pinjore – Kalka, segments.The Chief Principal Secretary to CM, Haryana suggested that the road connectivity from Panchkula to Mohali Airport may also be examined at the earliest for convenience of all commuters.The Hon’ble Minister Tourism and Culture Affairs, Punjab said that the overall transport improvement proposals with respect to Mohali are in order and further suggestions if any shall be communicated to Chandigarh Administration within a week’s time for incorporation in the final report. The Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Punjab advised to connect MRTS from Airport Chowk Mohali to Airport in First Phase itself.The Mayor Chandigarh, Sh. Anup Gupta also seconded this suggestion made by CM Haryana.The Hon’ble CM Haryana and Hon’ble Minister Punjab appreciated the Chandigarh Administration for preparation of CMP for Tricity through RITES Ltd. and accepted the proposals to ease out the traffic and transportation problems of the Tricity.Further it was also agreed to set up Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) a unified platform to handling overall Mobility issues of tricity UMTA will comprise Govt. of India, officials Chandigarh Administration, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab stakeholders to ensure coordination among various institutions and implementation of this mobility plan to improve the traffic situation in the city.Sh. Banwarilal Purohit appreciated the positive feedback and valuable suggestions given by different stakeholders that would benefit the residents of tricity and resolve the existing traffic related issues of the UT Chandigarh and the neighbouring areas of Punjab and Haryana.The final CMP report submitted by RITES was unanimously approved with above observation and same will be submitted incorporating these suggestions for further approvals by Govt. of India.

Punjab Government will build community centres in 49 villages under Dr. Ambedkar Utsav Dham Project: Dr. Baljit Kaur

  The Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann  is going to build community centres in 49 villages of the state under the Dr. Ambedkar Utsav Dham project.          Giving this information, Minister of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Dr. Baljit Kaur said this community centres were started by  Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana will be built under the Dr. Ambedkar Utsav Dham project. She said that approximately Rs. 25 lakhs will be spent on the establishment of a community center, while a total of Rs. 12 crore 25 lakh will be spent. She said that these centres will be built in villages with 50 percent scheduled caste population.          Dr. Baljit Kaur said that Shri Mukatsar Sahib district village Burj Sidhwan, Ghumiara Khera, Jhorar, Khane ki Dhab, Rathrian, Chak Chuhe wala, Chak Gandha Singh Wala, Lakhewali, Mehna. Faridkot district village Sikhan Wala, Machaki Mal Singh, Devi Wala, Nathlwala, Dhab Sher Singh.  Mansa district  Village Chakerian Saharana, Faridke, Malkon, Sherkhan Wala, Kashpur China, Hasanpur, Reond Kalan, Malakpur Bhimla, Lakliwal, Uddat Saidewala, Narindrapura. Mahalon Village of District S.B.S. Nagar and  Patiala district village Bathoi Khurd, Ramnagar Bakshiwala, Chunagra, Tarain. Village Qila Hakima of District Sangrur, Villages Ajner, Jallah, Amloh, Amloh (Khamna), Kotla Bajwara, Turan, Jallowal, Kotla Ajner, Kumbhra, Manela, Nabipur, Nurpura, Raipur Raian, Ranwan, Saidpura, Shahidgarh and Ladpur of District Fatehgarh Sahib have been selected for community centers.          The Cabinet Minister further said that with the construction of these community centers, the people of the villages will get urban facilities, but will also get the facility to hold private and public events without any cost. She said that the construction of these community centres is being done very fast by the department and these centres will be constructed and dedicated to the people in stimulated time. 

Jan Maal Lok Adalat’ to be started from Jalandhar: Jimpa

      Punjab Government would start first of its kind ‘Jan Maal Lok Adalat’ from Jalandhar. Revenue Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa said that as per the guidelines issued by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, efforts would be made to solve the problems of people related to the revenue department on the spot. He said that during ‘Jan Adalat’ various schemes and offices of the revenue department will also be inspected. It is pertinent to mention that before this, Jimpa had started a unique initiative by organizing ‘Janta Darbar’ of Water Supply and Sanitation Department.          Jimpa said that ‘Jan Maal Lok Adalat’ would be held on March 20. Complaints and problems related with Revenue Department would be heard and solved on the spot. He said that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is making immense efforts to make the functioning of the revenue department easy and people-friendly. Department has adopted online system to streamline the work and more concrete steps will be taken in the future.          He further said that Lok Adalats would also be set up in other districts of Punjab. Jimpa said that CM Bhagwant Mann is working tirelessly to provide all facilities to the people of Punjab from day one. It is also the aim of the government that the people should not face any kind of hardship for the facilities and get all the facilities at their doorstep without any hassle. If any citizen have problem/complaint/difficulties , it would be resolved in a timely manner. If any officer/employee found guilty of negligence strict action will be taken against him, Jimpa added.          Jimpa appealed to the people of Punjab not to give any bribe to any officer or employee for doing any work related to the revenue department and if anyone asks for a bribe then it should be reported immediately. He said that corrupt officers and employees will not be spared at any cost. He said that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is fully committed to take Punjab to greater heights of progress. He sought cooperation from Punjabis to make the state ‘Rangla Punjab’. 

EX-SITU ARRANGEMENTS BEING MADE BY PUNJAB FOR SUITABLE MANAGEMENT OF PADDY STRAW GETS BIG BOOST

     Under the guidelines of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for the proper management of paddy straw, the ex-situ arrangements being made by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) have received a big boost.          Due to the efforts of the PPCB, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) issued guidelines for grant of one time financial support under Environment Protection Charge (EPC) funds for establishment of Pelletization and Torrefaction plant to promote utilization of paddy straw.          Divulging the details in a press communiqué Science, Technology and Environment Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today said that the PPCB motivated the entrepreneurs and existing industrial units to install paddy straw based Pelletization and Torrefaction Plants to promote maximum utilization of paddy straw in the State. With the continuous and sincere efforts of the PPCB, three industrial units of Punjab have applied on the portal of PPCB for obtaining financial assistance under the guidelines issued by CPCB. Out of three units, on the recommendations of the PPCB, M/s A.B. Fuels, Village Dhaipai, Bhikli, (Mansa) has successfully got the financial assistance from CPCB to the tune of Rs. 81,85,805 i.e. 40% of plant cost of Rs. 2,04,64,513 for setting up of paddy straw based torrefaction plant of capacity 3 TPH.          Meet Hayer further said that with this ex-situ management of paddy straw approach i.e. establishment of such units in the State, the paddy straw based pellets will be available to the Thermal Power Plants within the state itself and reduce the burning of paddy straw in the open fields.The establishment and providing financial assistance to such palletization / torrefaction plants will encourage the entrepreneurs and existing industrial units, thereby, there will be substantial increase in paddy straw utilization being generated in the state. 

Working not for forming next government but for welfare of next generations: CM

Asserting that the state has successfully completed the first lap of unprecedented development in the last one year, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today said that the state government is working untiringly not for forming the next government but for prosperity of the next generation. In a video message to the Punjabis on the occasion of completion of one year in office, the Chief Minister said that people of state had given a thumping verdict in favour of the Aam Aadmi Party during the assembly elections held last year. He said that during the last one year revolutionary changes have been witnessed in the state with his government making concerted efforts for ensuring the holistic development of Punjab and prosperity of its people. Bhagwant Mann said that unlike the previous governments who did everything for forming the next government, his government is focusing largely on holistic growth of the next generation. The Chief Minister profusely thanked the people of Punjab for bestowing him this responsibility with a huge verdict. He said that this faith and love showered by people have filled him with humility to discharge this duty effectively. Bhagwant Mann solicited the fulsome support and cooperation of people especially the NRIs for carving out a new Punjab. The Chief Minister said that for the first time a government has been formed in Punjab which belongs exclusively to the people of state. He said that it is neither the government of the Badal nor of Captain but this is the government of every Punjabi. Bhagwant Mann assured the people that as per their aspirations no stone will be left unturned for the well being of the state adding that a new, progressive and vibrant Punjab will be carved out soon.    The Chief Minister said that Punjab had witnessed massive development during last year adding that major thrust will be given to this growth and progress in the second year too. He said that with industries making a beeline to invest in the state, Punjab will soon emerge as an industrial hub in the coming days. Bhagwant Mann said that a major drive will be soon initiated against the drugs in the coming days to wipe out this menace from the state. Listing the several pro-people initiatives taken by his government in the last one year, the Chief Minister said that the state government has so far given 26,797 jobs to youth in the last one year to check brain drain. He said that the sole criteria for selection in this entire recruitment process are merit and the complete procedure is being followed in a transparent manner. Bhagwant Mann said that such a whopping number of jobs in merely one year reflect the commitment of the state government to ensure the well being of youth and opening new avenues of employment for them. The Chief Minister further said that the state government has fulfilled the guarantee of giving 300 units of free electricity per month from July 1. He said that it is a matter of great pride and satisfaction that 87% of the households in the state have got zero power bills in the months of November-December, 2022. Bhagwant Mann said that he hails from a common family and knows well what are the problems being faced by them. Likewise, the Chief Minister said that the state government has regularized 14000 temporary employees in the state and the Cabinet has given nod for regularizing the same number of employees. He said that the state government has taken historic initiative to promote Moong as the third crop to bring farmers out of wheat/ paddy rut and save the precious water of the state. Bhagwant Mann said that MSP worth Rs 7275/- per quintal was announced on Moongi crop to supplement the income of farmers by Rs 30,000 per acre. The Chief Minister said that the state government has provided financial assistance at the rate of Rs. 1500/- per acre to the farmers for promotion of Direct Seeded Rice. He said that the state government has also paid the total outstanding amount of previous years of sugarcane cultivators. Bhagwant Mann also said that his government has for the first time ensured upward revision in daily wages of labour.

Dr Nijjar releases newsletter of local government department

Punjab Local Government Minister Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar on Thursday released the maiden issue of the quarterly newsletter of his department. He said that this initiative would act as a report card of the Local Government department.Releasing this newsletter here at Municipal Bhawan, Dr. Nijjar said that under the visionary and dynamic leadership of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government is committed to striving for the comprehensive development of the municipal towns of the state and to report its initiatives to the general masses in a transparent manner. “The intent of this newsletter is to reach out to all the relevant stakeholders and make them conversant about the works being carried out. Further, it shall help in making the residents aware of various important projects”, said Mr. Nijjar while adding that this newsletter has shown the seriousness of the Government through initiatives taken by the State as well as ULBs to ensure transparent, accountable and responsive Governance.Divulging further, Dr. Nijjar said that the quarterly newsletter (March-2023) released today has reported the progress under key projects like Smart City Mission, AMRUT, Swachh Bharat Mission, MSeva (e-Governance), Punjab Municipal Services Improvement Projects (PMSIP). “Apart from this, information regarding World Bank/Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, GIS-enabled geospatial planning, urban transport (Bus Rapid Transit System – BRTS), housing for the urban poor, affordable housing projects, credit link subsidy scheme, urban livelihood missions, business process re-engineering and municipal fire services has been also carried in this newsletter”, he added.Cabinet Minister said that this issue has also highlighted the financial support provided to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) under AMRUT and Swachh Bharat Mission besides mentioning the new initiatives in the field of e-governance such as instant issuance of trade license for non-hazardous trades, Public Works Integrated Management System and Integrated Financial Management System.On this occasion, Mr. Vivek Pratap Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary, Local Government, Ms. Isha Kalia, IAS, Chief Executive Officer-PMIDC, Mr. Uma Shankar Gupta, IAS, Director Local Government and other departmental officers were present. 

CROSSING THE CROSSROADS: PUNJAB EXTENDS RED SIGNAL TO TOLL PLAZAS ON FOUR ROADS: HARBHAJAN SINGH ETO

     With the motive to provide relief to the common man, Punjab Public Works Department (PWD) has made four roads of the state Toll Free for commuters; Upgradation and Special Repairs of  3571 km link roads carried out expending Rs. 509 Crore across the state.          Listing out Punjab Government’s achievements of one year, Punjab PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that Ludhiana – Malerkotla, Hoshiarpur-Tanda, High Level Bridge at Makhu, Balachaur-Garhshankar-Hoshiarpur roads have been made Toll free for the commuters, He said that the contracts of these toll plazas have expired but the companies was indulging in several tantrums to get it extended. He said that keeping the interests of Punjabis above, the state government has decided to close these toll plazas with immediate effect. Apart from this, more such toll plazas will be closed in coming days as the state government is already preparing the list of all other such defaulters.          Assailing the successive governments in the state for overburdening people by mortgaging the roads of Punjab for their vested interests, he said that the state government will take every possible step to ensure that people are given reprieve from this burden.          Speaking about the other such initiatives taken by the department, he said that the 65 Sewa Kendras have been converted along with up-gradation of 215 Primary Health Centers to Aam Aadmi Clinics during FY 2022-23. “166 Km road length has been completed with an expenditure of Rs 86.70 Crore under Special Assistance scheme,” he said while adding that 3571 km length has been completed with an expenditure of Rs.509 Cr. on completed & ongoing works under Link Roads projects.           Highlighting other pro-people projects, Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh said that time bound works such as up-gradation of Schools, Heritage Gates & Streets, 4-Laning of roads and beautification works by plantation of ornamental plants have been completed for  G-20 meetings. Further, repair and maintenance of various Govt buildings, hospitals and public buildings have been carried out in a big way in Amritsar. He said that expenditure of Rs. 411 crore has been incurred on ongoing and completed works & 373 KM of rural roads have been upgraded under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in the State.          Harbhajan Singh ETO said that work on 28 HLBs/ROBs/RUBs is underway with an expenditure of Rs. 58.26 crore under.           The Cabinet Minister further added that the Department has implemented an Engineering & Project Management Module for preparation and submission of Works bills with a mandate to improve the overall working with effective, efficient and transparent methods.

NUMBER OF PENDING COURT CASES BE BROUGHT DOWN TO ZERO: LAL CHAND KATARUCHAK

   The Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister had vowed to undertake every possible step for the welfare of all sections of the society on assuming office one year ago. As part of this, the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department must ensure that there should not be any delay in the process of giving jobs to the kin of the deceased employees.          These views were expressed here today at Anaj Bhawan in Sector 39 by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak while chairing a meeting to review the functioning of the department.           The Minister directs the officers present to exert themselves for lowering the number of pending Court cases pertaining to the department and bring these down to zero. Every case must be studied and analyzed thoroughly, added Mr. Kataruchak.          The Minister further pointed out that steps must be initiated to implement on ground level the policy decisions taken in the meetings convened for more improvement in the functioning of the department and each task should be completed with emphasis on the transparency factor. He warned that malpractices would not be tolerated.          In view of the impending wheat season, the Minister said that the Health Department should be approached for providing the first aid facilities in the mandis.           Among others present on the occasion included the Director Ghanshyam Thori, AMD Pungrain Parampal Kaur Sidhu and Joint Directors Dr. Anjuman Bhaskar and Ajayveer Singh Sarao.

KUDNI ASSUMES CHARGE OF CHAIRMAN PSIDC

The newly appointed Chairman of the Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation (PSIDC) Jasvir Singh Kudni on Wednesday assumed charge of his office at Udyog Bhawan here in the presence of Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema and HUD, Information and Public Relations, New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora.Congratulating the newly appointed Chairman, the Ministers expressed confidence that Jasvir Singh Kudni will work hard to resolve the issues related to the industries in addition to making concrete efforts to uplift the industries in the state. Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Jasvir Singh Kudni said that he would perform his duties with full dedication and diligence. He said that he would make every possible effort to ensure the rapid growth of the industry so that it could contribute adequately to the ‘Rangla Punjab Mission’.
