Haryana State Election Commissioner, Sh. Dhanpat Singh said that the first phase of polling for Gram Panchayats in Haryana was conducted peacefully except for some sporadic incidents that were reported in Nuh district.
The poll for Panch and Sarpanch posts was held in 9 districts namely Bhiwani, Jhajjar, Jind, Kaithal, Mahendragarh, Nuh, Panchkula, Panipat and Yamunanagar. The election results were declared immediately after the counting of votes.
Sh. Dhanpat Singh congratulated all the officers and officials engaged in the polls for conducting fair and peaceful elections in the first phase.
“In the first phase, there were a total of 48,80,506 voters. The overall voter turnout was around 81 per cent,” added the State Election Commissioner, Sh. Dhanpat Singh informed that the polling staff has declared the election results after counting the votes for the post of Panch and Sarpanch. Polling staff, police personnel and other officials engaged in the elections performed their duty very well. Everyone deserves applause, he added.
Out of 25,967 Panchs, 17,158 were elected unanimously and voting was held for the remaining 8,809 Panch posts
The State Election Commissioner informed that 39,619 candidates had filled nominations for 25,967 Panch posts in the first phase poll held in 9 districts, out of which 765 nominations were rejected and 4,869 candidates withdrew their applications.
Meanwhile, 17,158 Panches were unanimously elected, including 8708 males and 8450 females. 16,832 candidates contested for the 8,809 Panch posts.
133 out of 2,605 sarpanches were elected unanimously and voting was held for the remaining 2,472 sarpanch posts
Sh. Dhanpat Singh informed that 17,597 candidates had filled nominations for 2,605 Sarpanch posts, out of which 192 nominations were rejected and 5,880 candidates withdrew their nominations. 133 were elected unanimously for the post of Sarpanch including 74 male and 59 female. 11,391 candidates contested for 2,472 sarpanch posts.
The State Election Commissioner informed that elections for the post of Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Asoda Siwan, Block-Bahadurgarh, District Jhajjar and Gram Panchayat Khodma, Block Narnaul and Ward No. 6 of Gram Panchayat Floor Majra, Block Siwan, District Kaithal has been postponed due to the orders of the High Court.
