Vice President confers PhD degrees on 1216 scholars

The Vice President of India, Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar, today conferred the PhD degrees upon scholars at the 18th convocation ceremony held at Maharshi Dayanand University, during a convocation ceremony held at Rohtak.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Second Lady of India, Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, Haryana Governor and Chancellor of Maharishi Dayanand University, Sh. Bandaru Dattatraya, Supreme Court Judge, Mr. Justice Surya Kant, and Higher Education Minister, Sh. Mool Chand Sharma. On this occasion, Supreme Court Judge, Mr. Justice Surya Kant was honoured with an honorary doctorate.

In his address he encouraged the scholars to work with dedication in their lives, serving the elderly and showing respect for the country. The Vice President said that it is a matter of pride that in this convocation ceremony, 1216 scholars were awarded Ph.D. degrees, and among them, 740 are women, showcasing the progress of women in every field in India and Haryana. He also inspired the students to work towards success in life, serve the elderly, and maintain respect for the country.

Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar said that receiving education from this institution goes beyond personal achievements. He encouraged them to cherish the memories of those who have shared their educational journey and struggles at every step. He emphasized the importance of staying connected with the alma mater, as it would significantly contribute to the institution’s progress.

Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar praised the scholars, stating that they are fortunate individuals who have received education during this Amrit Kaal. He urged them to utilize their unique circumstances, harness their boundless energy, and move forward by applying their talents and potential. He acknowledged that the current era is a period of glory for India and highlighted the values of honesty, accountability, transparency, and integrity as crucial elements in governance.

The Vice President highlighted that there was a time when India lagged in technology and depended on other nations, but now India is among the top 10 countries globally in technological innovation. He discussed the Quantum Technology mission and the Green Hydrogen mission, emphasizing the enormous employment opportunities in these areas and encouraging the graduating students to consider these fields.

Jagdeep Dhankhar advised the students not to fear failure but to consider it as the greatest teacher who teaches one how to succeed. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he said Take risks in your life, if you win, you can lead, If you lose, you can guide. He encouraged students to take risks in life and pursue new endeavours, as failure is the best teacher.

The Vice President reminded the scholars to always respect their elders, parents, teachers, and the country. He emphasized that in India, where respect for elders is ingrained, it’s essential to always prioritize respect for elders. He further highlighted that Indian culture and heritage set India apart from other nations, and students should illuminate their family, state, and country’s name while always respecting their elders.

Speaking on the occasion, Haryana Governor and Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University, Sh. Bandaru Dattatraya expressed joy over the 18th convocation and congratulated the scholars. He commended their hard work, dedication, and commitment to earn the prestigious Ph.D. degree. Sh. Dattatraya congratulated the scholars’ families and mentors, acknowledging their support throughout the educational journey.

He called upon the scholars to draw inspiration from the life and philosophy of Swami Dayanand Saraswati and dedicate their efforts to societal, national, and human welfare. He highlighted the current era’s emphasis on technology, suggesting that opportunities abound in fields like Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Acknowledging Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi’s efforts to enhance India’s global standing, the Governor encouraged the youth to make their lives meaningful by utilizing their capabilities.
