DGP Ashok Kumar and MLA Pritam Singh Panwar inspect disaster affected areas

Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar along with Dhanaulti MLA Pritam Singh Panwar and other officials conducted on-site inspections of disaster affected areas of Kumalda, Sarkhet, Maldevta and the nearby areas.

During the inspection, the DGP instructed the officials concerned to continue the rescue operation and provide relief works through police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). He also directed the SDRF to form alternate connectivity routes for the villagers at the earliest while keeping the consistent search on for missing persons. Kumar said that the local Manoj Payal had first informed about the disaster to the authorities by calling at 112 due to which local police and SDRF arrived at the affected spot. He cooperated along with the local people in the police and SDRF’s rescue work. The DGP thanked Payal for his efforts and said he will be honoured for his alertness, courage and cooperation in such a sensitive situation. The Tehri district magistrate, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Dehradun and DIG Garhwal Zone were also present during the inspection.

Meanwhile, SDRF also recovered a dead body from the disaster-hit Raipur area on Sunday morning. The body was found by the deep diving team of SDRF near a bridge from the Soda Saroli area of Raipur. According to the SDRF officials, the body could not be identified but it has been handed over to the district police to carry out the further process.

CM Dhami prays in Tapkeshwar after shrine flooded by raging river

The heavy rainfall experienced in Dehradun from Friday night onward caused flooding in various parts of the city and its suburbs. The famous Tapkewhar Mahadev temple was also flooded during the wee hours due the level of water in the Tamasa river rising considerably due to consistent and heavy rainfall in the surrounding foothills.

After inspecting the suburban areas affected the heavy rainfall and resulting damage, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple area. He directed officials to focus on plans to mitigate damage from disasters in the future. The CM also offered prayers in the shrine and wished for the welfare of all citizens.

Earlier, Dhami visited the affected areas of Thano, Kumalda and nearby areas. He directed the Garhwal commissioner and Tehri district magistrate to shift residents of affected areas to safer locations. The CM directed officials to facilitate alternative routes to citizens in places where the main roads are blocked. Officials were told to restore electricity and water supply in the areas where these were disrupted.

Inspecting the collapsed bridge in Thano, he directed officials to arrange for an alternative route soon. The CM also talked to the MLAs concerned to keep a tab on the situation in their respective areas.

U’khand to be made cataract-free, says Minister Dhan Singh Rawat

Uttarakhand Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat has said that a campaign in phased manner would be undertaken to make Uttarakhand free from cataract. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a call for ‘Cataract free India’ campaign so that the country is made free from cataract in the next three years. The minister said that the free operation of cataract patients is being done in the State and free eyeglasses are being provided to such patients.

Elaborating further he said that in the year 2017-18, free cataract surgery was performed on 37,901 patients while 34,538 surgeries were done in the year 2018-19. In the year 2019-20 a total of 33,292 cataract surgeries were performed while 23,160 and 34,627 surgeries were formed in the year 2020-21 and 2021-22 respectively.  The minister added that the State government is committed to making the State free from cataract.

He said that 37th national eye donation fortnight would be organised in the State from August 25 to September 8. The fortnight is being organised under the aegis of the National programme for control of blindness and visual impairment. The Minister has given necessary instruction to the officers of the health department for successful organisation of the campaign. In the fortnight the people would be encouraged to take a pledge to donate eyes after their death.

Rawat said that camps to test the eyes of the people would be organised at the block levels in all the 13 districts of the state during the campaign.  Apart from checking the eyes the ANMs and Asha workers would distribute vitamin A tablets in these camps. Rawat said that many schemes are being operated in the State for the patients with visual impairment and other diseases.

300 children selected in Dehradun for Mukhyamantri Khiladi Udiyaman Yojana

The three-day selection process to select talented children at the Dehradun district level to be the rightful beneficiaries of Mukhyamantri Khiladi Udiyaman Yojana successfully ended on Friday which was being conducted at Parade Ground. It was being conducted to select children who are into sports under the guidance of additional district magistrate (administration) Shiv Kumar Baranwal.

Over 200 children participated in the selection process on the last day out of which, 50 boys and 54 girls belonged to the age groups of 12-13 years and 54 boys and 44 girls to 13-14 years. During the three-day selection process period, a total of 498 children participated from across the district but only 300 children including 150 girls and boys were selected for the scheme. After the launch of the scheme on August 29 by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhani, each beneficiary will receive Rs 1,500 each month for one year, said the ADM.

Health Dept in Uttarakhand prepared to tackle dengue menace

Amid the fear of spread of the dengue in Uttarakhand, the secretary in charge of health and family welfare department, R Rajesh Kumar has said that the general public should take necessary steps for prevention of spread of the disease. He said that the health department is on an alert mode on the disease and it has made all the preparations for preventing the spread of the vector borne disease. Kumar claimed that a strategy was planned by the department well in advance and dengue control activities were undertaken from the State to the district level due to which the situation is under control.

He said that the period starting from the onset of Monsoon till October is favourable for spread of the disease and during this period people should remain cautious. The secretary in charge said that the department has undertaken source reduction activity on a large scale in the city. The anti dengue activities are being done in coordination with Asha workers and Municipal Corporation and fogging is being done in the affected areas. He added that apart from source reduction exercises the health department has also undertaken an awareness drive in which people are explained the ways to prevent the menace of dengue.

Kumar added that the street plays are being enacted in the villages to spread awareness about the disease. He said that isolation beds for dengue patients have been kept in reserve in all the hospitals. It is pertinent to mention here that Aedes Aezypti, the vector of the disease, strikes during the day time and breeds in clear water. The doctors’ advice people to wear full sleeved clothes to prevent exposure to the mosquito bite and don’t allow water to get collected in their vicinity. Dengue is a viral infection spread by the mosquito Aedes Aezypti popularly known as Tiger Mosquito.

The symptoms of the disease are persistent high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints. In the acute cases the platelets number decreases drastically which may prove fatal for the patient. In Uttarakhand the disease is more prevalent in Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts

Indian Army starts recruiting Agniveers in Uttarakhand

The 13 day long Army recruitment rally under Agnipath scheme started in Kotdwar town of Pauri district today. In the rally the candidates belonging to seven districts of Garhwal region of the State would take part on different dates. The Agniveer recruitment rally for the Kumaon region would commence on Saturday in Ranikhet.

In Kotdwar the rally received an overwhelming response on the opening day. Long queues of the aspirants were seen at the Gabbar Singh Camp in Kodia area of Kotdwar on the first day. The authorities had erected a waterproof tent for the aspirants from where they were allowed entry in the camp. At the entry gate of the camp the vaccination certificates of the aspirants were checked. The army authorities disclosed that 4945 candidates took part in the recruitment rally on the first day on Friday.

More than 1,08,000 youngsters have registered for entry in the Indian army under Agnipath scheme in the State of Uttarakhand. Out of these more than 63000 registered under ARO Lansdowne where recruitment of candidates belonging to Chamoli, Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Tehri and Uttarkashi district would be held. 

On Friday the candidates belonging to Joshimath, Chamoli, Pokhri, Karnprayag, Ghat, Dewal, Narayanbagar and Adibadri of Chamoli district participated in Agniveer recruitment. The registered candidates from Tharali, Gairsain, Jilasu and Nandprayag Tehsils of Chamoli districts and candidates of Dunda and Chinyalisaur of Uttarkashi district will participate on Saturday. 

The sub divisional magistrate (SDM), Kotdwar, Pramod Kumar has imposed section 144 in the area surrounding 200 metres of the recruitment rally venue Gabbar Singh camp from August 19 to 31.

Option of CBI probe in paper leak also open, says Uttarakhand CM

Uttarakhand Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today said that the State government has kept all its options open when it comes to the investigation of the UKSSSC examination paper leak case. At present the government is satisfied with the STF investigation but if needed in the future, the government will not hesitate from taking a big step in the interests of Uttarakhand and to maintain transparency in recruitment examinations. The CM said this while interacting with Bharatiya Janata Party State spokesman Ravinder Jugran who had gone to meet him for discussing the issue of the UKSSSC paper leak and government jobs allegedly being sold to bidders. Jugran said that the CM made it clear that the State government can also consider recommending a CBI investigation in the paper leak case in the interests of the State. The government may also recommend investigating the past 10 years, said the CM.

Earlier, Jugran requested Dhami that the option of CBI probe should be kept open to reach the core of the paper leak case, masterminds in the system and the big fish in the case. Jugran said that the STF officers may not be able to properly question senior police officers, bureaucrats, influential persons and politicians. He said that the chief minister listened to the issue seriously and with patience while assuring that the State government will do the needful to ensure that all those guilty in the case are brought to book. 

Uttarakhand has best ecosystem for setting up industries, says CM

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today said that Uttarakhand has the best ecosystem in the country for setting up industries. He participated in the inauguration ceremony of Gold Plus glass factory in Thithola of Roorkee.

Addressing the gathering, he said that Utatrakhand has a good law and order situation and other benefits which make a good environment for the industries. He said that an increase in the number of industries would increase the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the State and it would be reflected in the increased budget and more employment opportunities for the people.

He stressed that the new industrial units should help in providing direct and indirect employment for the local people. Dhami said that the present period is the golden phase ( Amrit kal) for the nation and everyone should work like a Karm Yogi in this period. He said that the current decade is the decade of Uttarakhand and on its 25th foundation day the State would be among the leading states of the country. Dhami said that he has held elaborate discussions with the people associated with the industrial sector and understood their problems.

He said that the State government has decided to simplify the procedure of government facilities to the industries. Stressing on the mantra of Simplification, Solution, Disposal and Satisfaction, the CM said that he has taken a commitment to make Uttarakhand one of the best states of the country.  He said that 30 lakh registered pilgrims have visited the Char Dhams this year and this year a new record of visitors in the Yatra would be created. Dhami further informed that more than four crore pilgrims came to the State during the Kanwad Yatra which is a record in itself.

The Haridwar MP, Ramesh Pokharial Nishank said that Uttarakhand has a very conducive environment for industries and we want to make Uttarakhand a model state by the year 2025. Making mention of  ‘ Made in India, Skill India and other projects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that today the head of the country is held high in the whole world.

Uttarakhand Govt approves provision of 100 litres of fuel or Rs 10,000 per month for vehicles of Block Pramukhs to undertake site inspections

Uttarakhand Government today approved the provision of 100 litres of fuel or Rs 10,000 per month for vehicles of Block Pramukhs to undertake site inspections.

The Panchayati Raj director Banshidhar Tiwari issued a direction to this effect on Thursday. The director stated that provision will be facilitated through untied grant under the 15th finance commission. Meanwhile, this decision has been welcomed by the Panchayat representatives. The Pramukh Sangathan head Darshan Danu said that the organisation had met the Panchayati Raj minister Satpal Maharaj some days ago.

The Panchayat representatives had raised various demands which had been pending for many years including provision of petrol or diesel for the vehicles of the Block Pramukhs.

The minister had directed the Panchayati Raj secretary and director to take necessary action without delay. Danu said that the Pramukhs are happy with the order issued on Thursday and have thanked the minister for facilitating this development.

Uttarakhand Guv inaugurates a five-day photo exhibition in Dehradun

Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General (retd) Gurmit Singh inaugurated a five-day photo exhibition in Dehradun on the completion of 75 years of India’s Independence organised by Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). Over 100 panels were put up in the exhibition that displayed the struggle of freedom fighters, terror of partition and history of freedom heroes of Uttarakhand. The governor said that the exhibition is a great platform to take inspiration from the biographies of our freedom fighters and those who have contributed to India’s independence.

He said that such events provide an opportunity to pay homage to our freedom fighters and help to groom the personality of the younger generation. It is quite important to remember the great sons who fought for freedom during Amrit Mahotsav. This festival of independence is a time for us to remember our past as well as achieve big goals in the future. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also talked about the goal of making the country a developed nation. People should make it their own goal too and must make every possible effort to achieve this goal,” said Singh. The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi and MLAs Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’ and Khajan Das were also present in the event.
