MCC conducts training of trainers on Disaster Management & Epidemic Response

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has conductedtraining of trainers (ToT) on Disaster Management and Epidemic Response under Swachh Bharat Mission at MCC office premises here today, during which training has been imparted to officials of Fire & Rescue Services, MCC and other departments.

Following the directions of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh the trainers were imparted training who will further train the frontline Municipal sanitation workers at 7 different locations of Chandigarh. Participants were trained about the topics like risk analysis, prevention, preparedness, effective response to the impact of a hazard, measures related to timely and effective warnings as well as evacuation and emergency planning, role of sanitation workers, personal safety, etc.

The sessions in the ToT were conducted by Sh. Sanjeev Kohli, Nodal Officer, Disaster Management & Senior CDI Civil Defense, Sh. Naveen Kumar, Fireman, Dr. Vinay Bhagat, Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ravinder Dhaliwal & Dr. Gaurav Lakhanpal. The training session was held under the supervision of Sh. Rohit Gupta, Joint Commissioner, MCC. 

To further train the Municipal sanitation workers, trainings have been planned from August 29th, 2022 in cascade model by master trainers trained in ToT today.

Uttarakhand Govt to increase compensation provided to disaster affected families

The Uttarakhand government has taken an in principle decision to increase the compensation provided to the disaster affected families in the State.

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held an elaborate discussion on the recent cloudburst triggered disaster in many parts of the state with his ministers after the meeting of state cabinet on Wednesday. In the meeting the department of disaster management was directed by the government to prepare a proposal to increase the compensation given to the victims of the disaster. The chief secretary S S Sandhu told the media persons that the cabinet held an informal discussion on the recent disaster and the relief and rescue operations.

He said that a decision to increase the compensation has been taken and the department concerned has been asked to make a proposal and provide details on it.

The deliberation of the State administration on compensation amount assumes significance since a demand for increasing the existing compensation has been made from various quarters. As of now there is provision of payment of compensation of one lakh rupees to the next of kin of the deceased in the natural disaster while a sum of Rs 1,01,000 is paid in mountainous areas of Rs 95,000 in plain area as compensation for damage to house in disaster

Efforts underway in Uttarakhand to reopen 257 blocked roads, restore power & water supply in affected villages

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), about 257 roads were reported to be blocked in various parts of the State.

After considerable damage caused by heavy rainfall on Saturday, comparatively clear weather in different parts of the State brought relief on Sunday. According to the SEOC, a total of 75 roads under the Public Works Department were blocked on Sunday while 140 were blocked on Saturday. Out of the total 215 blocked roads, 102 roads were reopened on Sunday with efforts underway to reopen the remaining 113 blocked roads. The roads reported blocked on Sunday include 10 State highways, three main district roads, three other district roads and 98 rural roads. Further, 19 roads under the PMGSY were reported blocked on Sunday in addition to the 178 blocked on Saturday. Out of the total 197 blocked PMGSY roads, 50 were reopened on Sunday with efforts underway to reopen the remaining 144 blocked roads. On Sunday, the authorities had deployed 25 mechanical excavators and other machines on State highways, 11 on main district roads, nine on other district roads and 105 on rural roads- totaling to 150 machines reported to be working on clearing the roads. Apart from these, 27 machines were deployed on PMGSY roads.

Apart from the roads, power supply was disrupted to a number of villages due to rain in Chamoli, Pauri, Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag districts. According to the official data on Sunday, electricity supply had been restored in 311 out of 428 villages where it was disrupted. Efforts were underway to restore power supply in the remaining 117 villages.

When it comes to drinking water supply, 28 water supply schemes were damaged during the past three days due to heavy rain and disaster. Three of these have been restarted temporarily with work continuing to restore supply through the remaining 25 water supply systems. During the past 24 hours, personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted rescue operations in various affected parts of the State, rescuing both people and domesticated animals.

DGP Ashok Kumar and MLA Pritam Singh Panwar inspect disaster affected areas

Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar along with Dhanaulti MLA Pritam Singh Panwar and other officials conducted on-site inspections of disaster affected areas of Kumalda, Sarkhet, Maldevta and the nearby areas.

During the inspection, the DGP instructed the officials concerned to continue the rescue operation and provide relief works through police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). He also directed the SDRF to form alternate connectivity routes for the villagers at the earliest while keeping the consistent search on for missing persons. Kumar said that the local Manoj Payal had first informed about the disaster to the authorities by calling at 112 due to which local police and SDRF arrived at the affected spot. He cooperated along with the local people in the police and SDRF’s rescue work. The DGP thanked Payal for his efforts and said he will be honoured for his alertness, courage and cooperation in such a sensitive situation. The Tehri district magistrate, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Dehradun and DIG Garhwal Zone were also present during the inspection.

Meanwhile, SDRF also recovered a dead body from the disaster-hit Raipur area on Sunday morning. The body was found by the deep diving team of SDRF near a bridge from the Soda Saroli area of Raipur. According to the SDRF officials, the body could not be identified but it has been handed over to the district police to carry out the further process.
